  • Outstanding filter.
They literally thought of everything a fish keeper would need on a filtration system. This filter is a must have, I own two 3 inch oscars in a 36 gallon (will be moved to a 150 gallon once they reach 6 inch), and keeps the tank clear, clean and filters all their bioload. Must have. It is quiet enough, we sleep literally next to it, and we can't complain. Water flow easy to adjust, filter media changes are easy, installation is easy. Easy. One thing I'll say for fish owners is always go bigger. If you have a 55 gallon, purchase the 75 tidal or if you have a 75 gallon purchase the 115 tidal, you won't regret this purchase. ... show more

  • Works great
So far it’s working great! We’ve had it about two weeks now and it’s the best filter we’ve had. It’s a bit noisy from the water splashing but the motor itself isn’t noisy, easy to assemble. Definitely recommend this filter

  • excellent filter
I had to return my purchase of this filter that I bought here, and ended up buying somewhere else for other reasons. I ultimately bought same Tidal 75 filter for my 55 gal hexagon acrylic aquarium. Keeping discus, I need a filter that can clean the water and keeping it clean. Due to its unique shape, the backwall of the aquarium was not wide enough to accommodate canister spray bar. Otherwise, that would've been my choice since they are much better than HOB type. Tidal has their pump in the front instead of in the back of the HOB like some others. This in turn makes it a bit quieter because the pump is fully submerged in the aquarium. For regular aquarium with open top, having the pump in the front is not a problem. It is however for acrylic aquarium where the opening for regular HOB filter is about 1" too small for Tidal because of the motor in the front. To get the Tidal to fit, I had to enlarge the opening of the aquarium. What I like about Tidal 75? I like that the intake has an extended tube as well as intake on top to pull in floating proteins and uneaten food into it. You can also adjust intake level by opening and closing it, as well as adjusting water flow rate. If I want to increase or decrease surface water movement, I can easily do that. It comes with one foam pad, bio media bag and a bag of biomedia. Inside the Tidal is a container where the foam pad and biomedia bag goes. If you don't need to clean the filter unit, just remove the container, clean the foam and the media, and put it back. Easy peasy. I definitely recommend that you also get polishing pads. I bought polishing pads separately. I however since then bought a huge roll of it as well as a huge roll of first stage filter pad and cut the shape to fit inside the Tidal. It is much more cost effective than buying the seachem polishing pads. In my Tidal, I have the blue sponge that came with it, a layer of first stage filter to trap larger debris that the sponge didn't trap, two layers of the polishing pads, and the biomedia bag. I do water change every 3 or 4 days, and I rinsed bio media bag in bucket that has some of the water from the aquarium. I rinsed the polishing pads and reuse. Once it gets too dirty, I replace it. Overall it is an excellent HOB filter. I would love to get another one for my other 40 gal hex acrylic aquarium, but I don't want to deal with cutting the top of the aquarium again. ... show more

  • Excellent option for a HOB filter
I bought the Tidal 75 unit from Amazon about a month ago. I was very excited to try it on my 55-gallon tank that houses mostly platies and black neon tetras. As far as HOB power filters go, this thing is feature rich. There are two adjustable flow controls. The first blends in or turns off flow through the intake, which in the off position leaves only the skimmer operational (more on this later). The other adjusts the flow from the pump itself, slowing total water flow through the unit by 80%. Personally I leave the intake wide open all the time and turn the flow down to a small trickle during feedings. The intake screen has large openings that could easily suck up fry. I may suggest an intake pre-filter for breeder use. The pump is powerful, and below the water line so priming is totally a non-issue. The filter never needs to be primed! The lid has a small bobbin that supposedly pops up when the mechanical filter sponge is full. I have serviced this filter twice and, while I may clean my filters more often than I need to, I have yet to see that bobbin move. I believe when that bobbin pops up, it will be beyond time to perform filter maintenance. Underneath the lid is a cavernous media basket that easily unsnaps from the housing. If you flip the lid over there is a secure way to interlock the basket and lid together. This provides a drip-free tray to carry to the sink. Excellent feature. The basket holds what must be 1.5 litres of media. It came with a sponge for mechanical filtering, and a large mesh bag filled with a smaller amount of Seachem Matrix bio rocks. I put a pound of Fluval ceramic rings in with the included Matrix media and still have room for a decent sized bag of activated carbon if needed. I replaced a Marineland Penguin 150 for the Tidal. And even though it was only rated up to 30 gallons, the Marineland was far more effective at biological filtration; likely due to the infamous bio-wheel. The Tidal filters only have provisions for submerged media, which IMO is less effective as bacteria need oxygen as well. I did manage to rig the old bio-wheel to this unit, and would recommend this modification to anyone who has a Tidal filter. The skimmer is powerful! Let's not even talk about protein film, it is non-existent. It pulled out every bit of duckweed that I was on-the-fence about. Any leaves or floating bit of whatever WILL be removed by the skimmer. Half of the skimmer weir is below my water line, which I often fear a wandering fry will fall into it. Generally they don't go near it but when they do they are strong enough to swim away from it. I did, however have my first battle with ich right after I got this unit. I had one fish fatality and the skimmer pulled the little guy right up to it. There is a place on the side of the housing to clip a heater to, but I don't care to have my heater set vertically. Luckily the clip is removable. Pros- -Never needs primed -Extra-large media basket -Adjustable flow controls -A functional skimmer Cons- -Bio media is submerged, I like bio-wheels! -Skimmer is almost too effective. Very small fry are at risk. -Intake screen has large openings. Also a danger to fry -Throws a lot of debris after servicing the media basket. Only way to combat this is to remove the whole unit and rinse before putting back into service. Not cool. ... show more

  • Fantabulous Filter (hob)
This thing puts out 350 gallons an hour. It is self priming in case of a power outage, just starts right back up. I have used a multitude of different fine filter pads that I cut and this things works well with everything. Mine still works even though I ran it dry for 15 minutes straight. Extremely durable product ... show more

  • Perfect if you don’t have duckweed
This is a large powerful self priming filter. I’m happy to have a large area to customize my filter media and the removable filter container with the lid acting as a catch cup is awesome. I have a large amount of duckweed and if this didn’t have the surface skimmer would be perfect but has caused me a lot of frustration do to the slurping noises it causes. That isn’t the fault of the unit just my use case so without duckweed I couldn’t recommend this enough. ... show more
