  • 16’ Lund angler 50hp motor
Color: White
2021 Lund angler 50hp motor. Been using for about a year. Had no complaints about the boat in the first place, just had positive experiences with this style hydrofoil in the past. I do 50/50 shallow rivers to big lakes. Thing works great. Got 2mph top end stock prop @ 6k rpm (28mph to30mph). Once you get the feel for the trim, the nose really doesn’t rise at all at take off. Very nice for shallow rivers. Planes faster and once you get on plane you can slow back down a little and remain there. I can turn sharper without cavitation (still cavitates, not as quickly). This product is boat specific. Different experience on my old 16’ bass tracker, and a 20’ pontoon. Still good results but no top end gain with tracker or pontoon. I want to add I didn’t want to drill through the node so I shaved the hydrofoils opening wider so it slipped further back. Mounting holes now miss the node. Also, if the hydrofoil is level with the cavitation plate it doesn’t work as well. Putting some nylon washers in the front of the foil to angle the rear of it down had better results. Obviously, too much angle slows the boat down. You’d think they’d mention something about angling the foil to fit your needs. ... show more

  • 3 Time Repeat Buyer. Simple, Functional/Effective
Color: Metallic Gray
I have owned multiple small boats, mostly small Carolina Skiffs: j16 (40hp Johnson, 50hp Evinrude), JVX16 (50hp Honda, 60hp Suzuki). On all of these boats/engines, I've ended up installing an SE-300 Sport Hydrofoil. Everything on a boat is a tradeoff, and hydrofoils are no different (weight distribution, trim/self-leveling tabs, hydrofoil, etc.). I want to sit as far rear in a boat as possible to have a smoother ride, but that usually has the effect of porpoising and slower hole-shot. I also keep these hulls in the water year-round, so I did not want anything like trim/self-leveling tabs that would be hard to maintain and paint (I have nothing against trim/self-leveling tabs, they do work really well, and I have used them on a 16 Semi-V to stop violent porpoising). My experience has been that this hydrofoil does improve my boat's performance. I'm currently running a JVX16 Carolina Skiff with a 60HP Suzuki 4-stroke. Installing the SE-300 Sport hydrofoil eliminated cavitation I was experiencing during hole-shot, improved hole-shot particularly while carrying more load, and widened the trim range of my motor while on-plane before porpoising starts. Among other things, this particular hydrofoil is aesthetically pleasing (no bright colors like some of the other brands). Because my motor is mounted on the higher bolt hole, this hydrofoil is not producing any noticeable drag (my WOT speed has not changed). ... show more

  • 4.3L MerCrusier Aplha1 install
Color: Metallic Gray
This review is intended to add some insight for installing this product on the above mentioned MerCusier outdrive. Overall, the instructions were ok, but this mercrusier outdrive was not covered very well. Here is what was missing for my install. Drilling the "rear, away from the boat" holes was covered & they mentioned that some units needed the "closer to the boat" holes drilled from the bottom of the cavitation plate. This is what my boat required, but to get my drill in the proper position, I had to remove the prop. Which was not covered. Once the prop was out of the way, the drilling went as explained. The "Drilling Template" was a nice tool & the distance markings were a very helpful. When putting the hydrofoil on the cavitation plate, the rubber washers, skinny & fat, were covered ok as to their position, but putting them between the hydrofoil & the cavitation plate was missing. And the "fat" rubber washers just slid off the screws, so getting the screws, washers, holes, underside washers & nylon locknut was a little challenging. The "skinny" washers fit the screws snugly & would stay in place when putting the hydrofoil in place, so that helped. Had the "fat" washers been sized the same would have made this part of the install much easier. Lastly, I would have liked the instructions to cover how "Tight" to tighten the screws holding this together. I used a 1/4" drive 7/16th socket with standard #2 phillips screwdriver. The rear screws went ok, but because of the layout of the outdrive, the "closer to the boat" screws had an issue with the screwdriver not being able to lineup straight with the phillips head. I tightened them down & did not strip the phillips heads , but this was a challenge. Possibly an "Allen Head" screw, with the "right angle" allen head wrench, may have been a better choice for this hardware. This install took me about 2 hours to complete, mostly because I had to go back to the garage to get different tools to work my way thru this install. If I had known about my issues were in advance, I think I could have completed this in about half that time. This review is not meant to "BASH" this item. It looks great on my boat & I can't wait to test it out next weekend. So hopefully this review will help someone in the future. HAPPY BOATING... ... show more
