  • Good mic
Color: SE4400a
Good mic. Came with a shockingly good little flight case. Nice shock mount. Rubberized surface helps keep you from dropping and breaking your investment. The visual similarities to the classic AKG 414 are obvious. (414's go for what, $1,600? $2,000?) This isn't the current, relatively bright but very good AKG 414. It has a little bit more tube-ish, ribbon-ish, mellower character to it. I've recorded some things and played around with the results since I got it. I bought it at the same time as an LCT 440 Pure. They're both good mics but have essentially opposite philosophies. I feel like the se4400 is going to give me a good tone straight out of the mic but with a reserved upper register - it is then my job go find, on the eq, what high parts I might want to emphasize, if I feel that is neccessary. With the LCT 440, it's going to give you everything and it is up to you to subtract from it. It has some warmth but is also a very airy mic. I find the se4400 a little easier to get quick results from when eqing. It's just easier to add a bump in the upper eq where you find a sweet spot than trying to figure out what to subtract and leave in. Generally I feel really confident with this mic doing vocal takes and acoustic guitar that I am going to get a good recording. I happen to use pennywhistles, recorders, and similar instruments in my music and having a non-hyped upper end is a real plus there. If you're looking for a poor man's AKG 414, this isn't exactly it, but in my case I felt like I got something that suited me a little better than a 414 would have. I'm sure you could save a parametric EQ setting with a shelf in the upper range, perhaps a few other tweaks and get a pretty decent approximation. Or look at some of the LCT products if you want a poor man's 414. I only wish the sE mics came with the same kind of built-in magnetic pop filter as the LCT's. Personally though, I wouldn't give up my se4400 up for a 2nd LCT. I did a LOT of research listening to endless mic shootouts on youtube with reference headphones and, within my particular budget, purposely paired these two mics because of their different characters - I like to alternate vocal takes, acoustic guitar takes, etc with these two - both are going to give you excellent material out of the mic, assuming your mic technique is good, but different takes on these two get out of each others' way without too much tweaking. original date 4/4/, update 5/16/18 still super happy with this mic. ... show more

  • Excellent microphone, high-quality, well packaged
Color: SE2200 - Standard
This is an excellent microphone. I like everything about it. It comes in a cardboard box with formed foam, and you can put the microphone back in the box when it is not being used. It is obviously very high-quality. I use the microphone for recording acoustic guitar and vocals. If you position the microphone 4 feet away at 45°, pointed at an angle at the guitar, the sound is excellent. The part of the microphone that attaches to the stand is easy to use. One note: there is a screw screwed into the plastic fitting that attaches to the stand. If you cannot figure out how to adapt this piece to your microphone stand, look for that screw, which can be removed to create a different fitting. I put the microphone away in the box when not using it so that it does not gather dust. It is extremely easy to put together and put away. Another thought (most people already know), remember to plug the microphone in completely before powering up your audio adapter, and to fully power down the audio adapter before unplugging the microphone. I turn the volume down on the audio adapter, turn off the audio adapter, and then unplug the microphone. Hope this helps. I’m giving this microphone five stars. I would buy it again in a minute. ... show more

  • Better then most at a much higher pricing point.
Color: Red
This SE mic works well in the studio as well as live. Every singer I work with have switched from SM58 to all SE mics due to this mic and pricing. Like all SE products, you get way more than you pay for.

  • Great stereo mics for acoustic guitar.
Color: SE4400a (Factory Pair)
Being an enthusiast, i was looking for a good matching stereo mic set up that would work well with acoustic guitars. Tried the akg314 set and they showed up doa. Neither mic worked. Upset , I decided to try the AE4400a set. I was really surprised at what i got. Out of the box they are really durable and well built. (Im a quality control engineer by day) the shock mounts were certainly different then what I expected. Very ingenious if you ask me. Takes a bit to get used to but works better then traditional shock mounts. The stereo bracket included is just as you would expect from such an accessory. My only issue was there are 2 switches for the poloar patterns and for a second i was puzzled. Usually there is only one but it certainly works. So the real question is how donthey preform? Well, in less then 20 minuets of unboxing i had them set up in a stereo configuration and was recording a Taylor acoustic. One take and inwas sold. Just an amazing reproduction. Very transparent and well balanced. Id recommend this for acoustic stereo mics, but I haven’t yet really tested vocals or other instruments. Although ive read reviews that they do supprisingly well on guitar cabinets. Ill post more as i go. This is well worth the money for the acoustic aspect alone. ... show more

  • Great microphone!
Color: X1 S - Vocal Pack
This is a great microphone with a lot of features at a competitive price. With the two levels of pad and two levels of high pass it can cover a lot of ground. This mic is very sensitive and you can get a lot of variations of tone from microphone placement. I have had great success already recording vocals as well as electric guitar cabinets. This pairs very well with an SM57 for picking up guitar cabs. Wonderful for voice as well. Looking forward to trying it out on more sources soon. ... show more
