  • Good for Zoom calls, WFH, Remote Work
Color: SE8 Mic
I work remotely from home for a marketing agency and do lots of Zoom calls. Over the years, I've tried different types of microphones. Headset microphones (like Poly) are good at blocking out unwanted sounds, but they have poorer audio quality (tend to be hissier, lack low-end bass). Studio microphones (I've used an Electro-Voice RE320 and Rode NT1, both excellent) have amazing quality, but pick up ALL sounds (including your barking dog) and they're so large that they take up a big portion of your video. But they say that 70-93% of communication is nonverbal (body) language. And as I've moved into management / leadership for my own people AND I manage clients, that matters to me. So I got a Logitech BRIO with a very wide angle lens (on top of my standing desk) so I can communicate with my hands and posture. But my studio microphones were so big they took up a LOT of the video. And they forced me to keep my mouth next to the microphone, which adjusts my posture so I look stiff glued to the mic. I also noticed that when I'm angled away from the microphone a little—to prevent plosives and sibilances—I came off as significantly quieter (especially with the Rode NT1, less with the EV RE320). So I needed a slimmer, more minimalist microphone that took up less of the screen, allowed me to move freely, and that I could place directly in front of me without losing any quality. Apparently, many video professionals use shotgun microphones outdoors, but small diaphragm ("pencil") condenser microphones indoors. After researching many SDC microphones, I found the Se8 is has one of the flattest and most neutral frequency responses for a reasonable (not Neumann) price. Most of the others overemphasize higher (treble) frequencies and lack some of the lower (bass) noises. I placed it on a gooseneck microphone stand in front of my keyboard under my monitor. Since my Logi K860 Ergo keyboard has a gap underneath it, I can slide the microphone stand underneath it. Great audio quality, minimalist footprint on video, allows me to gesture freely with my hands, and is pointed directed at me without having significant plosives or sibilances. Perfect. ... show more

  • Great value, low self noise and captures my voice well for meetings, phone calls and podcasting
Color: SE7
I purchased this to replace a Shure SM7B. While the Shure SM7B is great - it's also a typical broadcast-style dynamic microphone and needs to be right in your face to work. It also requires a lot of gain. This SE7 needs phantom power and has plenty of gain, though it is cranked almost as high as the SM7B due to the distance. I purchased this as it's more directional, should pick me up in close proximity, but not everything in my house like a large-diaphragm condenser (LDC). The sE Electronics SE7 definitely fit the bill. In Zoom meetings and podcasts - it's almost no different... except it's better. The microphone picks up much more nuance in my voice and it's about 18 to 20 inches from my face (45 to 50 cm). I've been very pleased with it and have used it for some auditions, podcasting, and making phone calls from my computer. It's not going to replace my main studio microphones (Neumann TLM 193 and Sennheiser 416 MKH) but I definitely might purchase another for podcasting and as a room mic for picking up conversations from more than one person. ... show more

  • Size matters!
Color: SE7
Bought this to replace a Blue Ember and an AT2020, both of which only can be mounted upright (vertically) on my desk stand as they are side driven. The SE7 is driven from the front (mounts horizontally) and is MUCH smaller, so I don't knock it over. The mounting clip that comes with it is really good. The sound, in my flute playing experience, is comparable to the others, as is the price. All three are excellent condenser mikes at $100; the SE7 meets my physical needs better. Do keep in mind that it does not come with an XLR cable, but it does include a useable pop filter. ... show more

  • Working great as high quality drum overheads
Color: SE8 Mic - Vintage (2 pack)
These seem to perfectly fit the bill as paired drum overheads. I also plan to employ them onstage as instrument mics for brass. They are working wonderfully, with full sound, bright and suitability directional. I am using them with the low band pass filters switched on to cut back sound under 80hz.

  • Microphones for recording an instrument
Color: SE7 (2 pack)
These sE Electronics SE7 Matched Pair microphones are an inexpensive way to capture authentic piano. The dynamic range is excellent, and the microphones focus well on the piano excluding sound to the rear of the mics.

  • You need one of these!
Color: SE7
I use this mic when it’s just me in front of the camera. It frees up my hands and makes me seem more natural. The sound is great and the self noise is other-worldly! It’s super quiet for the price.

  • High Performance - High Value
Color: SE8 Mic (2 pack)
These are possibly the best drum overheads I've ever used. They also absolutely shine on acoustic instruments as well. I've used Neumann and AKG's over the past forty plus years and these compare very favorably. At this price-point, you will not find a better matched mic pair.
