  • Installs in a flash - Works well!
The media could not be loaded. Update: I've been using this for 2 years now and it's seen a lot of use. It works like a charm. Just took a video while being towed by another kayaker who has an electric motor. We hit 5mph. Works well under all conditions. Original Review: I have a Tarpon 120 with track system and this arm with gear head works perfectly. Considering the price, ease of install and ease of use, I think it's a great value. So many fishing buddies have made their own transducer arm (DIY project) which is admirable, but I see a lot of those projects get scrapped after use for one reason or another. So, I often question the time/$ investment to make your own when something like this can be installed easily, works very well, and is priced right. I have a Hummingbird 688 and previously used it with this arm paired with the Scotty #368 Universal Sounder Mount, which goes right into this mount. Worked perfectly and highly recommend. However, with my fishing style, I wanted a lower profile, so I have since moved the finder to the center of my yak, but still use this mount and always have the option of putting something else on the mount if desired. To me, this allows for more options than the #140. To address some of the "issues" I have seen in some reviews. Bending at high speeds Although I paddle my yak, versus using a peddle drive of some kind, I keep up with all of my peddle drive kayaking buddies going 3-5mph. The arm has not bent and keeps the transducer right where it is supposed to be. On occasion, if I have not tightened the gear head down well, it might turn due to the force, but that's it (no bending). I tighten and all set. Pulling the yak right or left (depending on which side you're using it on) For me, this does not happen while paddling in any great manner. If I am drifting and some weeds collect on it perhaps a small amount of drag will occur. This will happen with any over the side/external arm of this kind. No big deal, I pull the weeds and continue. I really like that you can raise the arm up and down easily (assuming it's within reach). If I'm hauling from one area to another, and don't need to be looking at contours constantly, I raise it up and push it forward. When I'm approaching the new target area, then lower it and start checking the electronics. I have used it in front of me (as seen in pics) and behind me. ... show more

  • Works great.
Works good on the kayak. Mounted it forward of paddle stroke, plenty of up and down adjustment for the Garmin transducer.

  • Easy install for striker 4
Needed some extra rubber washers to mate with my Striker 4 vivid, but sturdy once put together. Easy to put on and take off when getting the kayak ready, works perfectly. It DOES cause a lot of extra drag when the transducer is down, something to consider.

  • Scotty sturdy
Not my first rodeo with Scotty fishing accessories. The name was why this product was selected over others. The price was also fair and a factor. Was not disappointed. The instructions were easy to follow for piecing the fish finder transducer holder together. All the pieces were there and in excellent condition. Was a little intimidated at first. But it was smartly designed. Hard to screw up the assembly. Only complaint I would have would be it did not get as short as I wanted. Did not want to run the transducer aground. As I have a tendency to forget it is in the water. Solved that issue by putting the transducer right near my seat on the rail that was included on the 12 foot. Wilderness kayak. No conflicts with fishing pole mounted nearby when it was down. Had to finagle (customize) the attachment to the Lawrence transducer to get it tight enough. It is easy to put up and down. It feels sturdy. It held up to fast trolling. Picture from transducer was clear. Spouse liked it so much, he bought one the same day mine arrived. After installation, he forgot to raise it when coming ashore. It did rub the ground but did not break. He put his closer to the front. I am confident it will last. As all my other Scotty products have. I will be checking the square nuts every now and then though. To ensure the water turbulence doesn’t loosen them too much. Cannot use loctite. They need to remain adjustable. ... show more

  • Made it work for the Tripleshot transducer.
I knew before purchasing this mount that it would not work out of the box. I was able to use cut and drill a stainless steel double wall plate cover to utilize as a mounting bracket. The lowrance tripleshot transducer is now securely held onto the telescoping arm. There is no wobble in the transducer at all. ... show more

  • Needs some fine tuning, more R&D needed by Scotty
I generally like Scotty mounts, but also find they need some fine tuning in many cases. In this particular case the bolt was a little bit too long that mounts into the T track. This prevented anything inserted into the upper hole from clicking and locking into place. I took a hacksaw and removed a few threads and all is good. Not everybody has a hacksaw and a vice in their basement though. Quality control could be improved. I think there could be a better system to mount transducers. I ended up having to use a number of washers and rubber spacers to make work. This whole thing was anything but plug-and-play. I had to make two separate trips to the hardware store, and may have to go back for a third, as I'm not really able to tighten the transducer down securely. I think Scotty could do a bit more research, and provide additional adapters. I ended up needed some very odd size (3/16") nylon spacers to make mine work, and that is not a common spacer size. Building up a series of washers may work, but I have not found what I would consider an ideal solution as of yet. Once again, the system lacks refinement, and doesn't seem like Scotty took the time to research various transducers and what would be required to mount them. I'm using a fairly common Garmin Striker 4 finder. I should also mention that if you have an inflatable this is not going to go vertically down into the water. The arm will hit the side of the pontoon and will go off at an angle. Still works, but protrudes a bit from the boat. Scotty is really not advertising this to work with an inflatable, so I can't fault them too much here. ... show more
