  • Should Have Bought One Years Ago!
I've seen these fume extractors selling for more money. So I wasn't really attracted to buying one since I don't do solder work every day. But when I saw this one selling for a more reasonable price I looked a bit closer. It seems to be exactly like the other ones that sell for more money. Something I've learned with other tools is that you can often buy the same exact tool, one being a name brand and the other being generic, and they both come out of China. Probably even the same factory in many cases. The only difference is the mark-up. I like the configuration of the stand on this model. Other models I've seen look more prone to tipping. This one doesn't budge when set in place. It's also sturdy, reasonably quiet and vibration free. The extra filters were a nice touch. I think it was money well spent adding this to my soldering kit. Solder fumes are definitely not something you want to be breathing in or getting in your eyes. ... show more

  • Works until you actually try to use the filter. Very underpowered.
Very frustrated with this, but I suppose I should have lowered my expectations given the price. It works pretty well until you put the filter in, which, unfortunately, is the whole point. Out of desperation I've even tried hanging it horizontally from the ceiling directly over my soldering, and I've seen the smoke actually divert around the fan on the way up. I've now built a crude hood to force the fumes into the fan, but if there was sufficient airflow that shouldn't really be necessary. I think I might have been better off sticking a filter on a vornado. ... show more

  • Does the job!
The fan and filter keep the air clean while I'm soldering - works as well as a super expensive hood. Two thumbs up from this silversmith.

  • Doesn’t control fumes
Bought this to put over an opening in a laser engraver cabinet to wash the burning wood fumes. Air flow is great, but the carbon filter is useless. Fumes passing through the unit are just as bad as no filter at all. Waited too long to return it, so I guess it is landfill.

Prefer the adjustable leg one. But this one works for soldering on table, need to hold the fan very close.

  • Works well when soldering
Great product that arrived on time and in good condition. Works well when soldering and I even use it to suck the cigarrete smoke outta the air.

  • Great for my room
I solder in a small room in my home. This is a wonderful item to keep the torch fumes away while the torch is lite.

  • Nifty
I love this thing. I don't know how I got along before buying this. sucks all the fumes out of the air, even if its not right next to the iron.
