This is a well-made feature-rich charger that any vehicle owner with a 12V battery will likely need someday. Hook it up, select the battery type and charge rate and press Start. It has protection built in to prevent damage if connected improperly. Even though this charger is called Pro, it is more suited for casual or medium use. It is likely not suitable for a high volume commercial shop. What I like… - Durable metal case. - Clamps are clearly marked by color and polarity. (See pic) - Sufficient cord length to reach most batteries while it is sitting on the garage floor. - Fully automatic operation, automatically switches to Maintain once the battery is charged. Protects against incorrect connections - Easy to see LED indicators. (See pic) - Bad battery detection and warning indicator. - Can jump start, charge or maintain, with a single device. - UL listed. Shortcomings… - The manual is not clear about operation. - Selection buttons are white flat disks on the display, they are not clearly marked with function. (See pic) - Battery clamps are not copper, they may corrode. - The grip handle in the case is awkward to carry. - Would be better if there was adequate cord wrap to stow the cables when not in use. The box included the charger with attached cables and clamps and a user guide. Simply connect and use, no assembly or set up required. (See pic) This is one of those things that you do not need… until you do and are glad that you have it. I’m keeping it handy for the next time my battery fails.     • Great battery charger by Schumacher
The model SPR1629-80 battery charger by Schumacher is made in PRC (china). I found no real fault with this charger. This charger did try to charge and rehabilitate a dead battery, even though it was ultimately unsuccessful. I wish the deep cycle had its own mode, but Gel mode is the same as deep cycle on this charger. This charger does a good job on charging normal automotive batteries.     • Charger doesent work on dead or low batteries
Charger wont work on dead batteries. If it sences anything less than 10v it just flash's and wont even try to charge. Its worthless for anything other than a hi amp tender. Bought 2 thinking the first one broke. Nope. JUNK

I picked this battery re-charger up for emergency use at home. We have a generator, tractor, snow-blower: Basically the things you don’t want running out of juice when you really need them to work. Not to mention the cars and the sort. This successfully jump started my generator which I didn’t realize had become unplugged during a cord swap. This car battery charger/starter is great. it is a relatively small and compact unit, yet it is definately strong wnough to easily jump start a car with a dead battery. It was also able to keep a good enough charge overnight a few nights to keep me driveable for a few days untill I had the funds to buy a replacement battery. ... show more

I have been a fan of Schumacher chargers, I have a very very old one that the cords are starting to deteriorate and I have a newer 2 amp battery maintainer. This one feels well built and is easy to use, even though the instructions aren’t the greatest. I first used it on a marine battery that has been sitting for a few months and was a little low on charge. It did bring it up to a full charge and then maintained the charge, the only thing I don’t like is the charger buzzes like some of the old chargers used to. I would have given it a 5 star if it wasn’t for the buzzing sound. I was concerned at first but the output voltage was correct and stable and it did quiet down when the battery was fully charged. The cords could be a little longer but it seems that everything is coming with shorter cords these days. Overall I do like the charger and it appears to charge just fine. ... show more
