I’m so surprised to find such bad reviews I had to stop and write something. I bought each of the three advent calendars Schleich put out for my ten year old who is obsessed with animals and has wanted to be a vet or work In a zoo since she was 5. Their animals are crafted with such love and detail that it is hard to believe that you can buy a baby elephant for $3.99 that has so many realistic details for example. And this advent calendar was no different. In fact, for $30, I don’t know what people expect but that’s basically almost $1 a toy so yeah some aren’t going to be large lions but the little details matter in play too. The only thing that they got wrong was the plastic egg. I had been very ill and I wasn’t able to see my daughter for almost a week! So when she came she got to open all the way from Dec 1-5 I think it was and it was this plastic egg looking thing you get when you put a quarter in a machine. But there’s supposed to be something in the egg. In this case, there was just the plastic. So she was not only disappointed but so was I so I let her open one more and she got the chick. We realized it was the egg for the chick but it looked more like garbage to me sadly. Other than that she was all screams and excitement and it was so much fun that I ended up letting her open the whole thing and getting the other two calendars they had.     • This is a great advent calendar, EXCEPT ...

The contents of this advent calendar are mostly great. There are a few days that are just a small pile of vegetables; one of these would make sense, but there's too many. One of the animals is way out of scale and appears to be from a different Schleich line entirely. Otherwise, everything's great. Good, high-quality toys. The problem is that the main picture -- the place where you open the little doors -- clearly shows every single item in the set. If you want to maintain the surprise, you're going to have to open the calendar in advance and transfer everything into another calendar. This may be challenging, as three of the items are sizable. The "string of bags" style calendar or something with big drawers may be the best option here. Alternatively, you could just paint the front in some festive way (red and green or blue and white or black and red and green or colors I don't know offhand) and write the numbers back in by hand. Or just divide everything into eight piles, put them all into little gift bags, and give them for Hanukkah. ... show more

As usual, I am pleased by the detail in Schleich figurines and play sets. I also like the fact that all of their animal figures can stand, which isn’t always a given with other brands. There’s nothing worse than an animal that was incorrectly molded so that the feet can’t support the animal etc. My only complaint about the set would be the false advertising of the treasure chest. In the picture on the box it is overflowing with gold coins. Well the set only contains 12 very thin, small coins - a fraction of what’s in the picture. Not a big deal, but it always bothers me when the pictures don’t accurately represent the actual items included. ... show more

Our daughter is 4.5 and loved this calendar. My only issue what that the teeter-totter base was one day, and the board for the top was another. They wouldn't typically be sold separate, so I don't feel that they should have counted for two days. It was still worth the price, knowing what each piece typically costs individually. ... show more

My son likes to collect this brand of toys when we go to Tractor Supply, so when I saw they had an advent calendar, I quickly purchased it. They are in no way to scale, but my son loved it all. He was so excited to see what each day brought. Highly recommend!

seems pricey for the stuff you actually get, but my daughter is a scheigh junkie and she's happy with the calendar. definitely better deals if you are just interested in scheigh products. but fun advent calendars are hard to come by, so this will do. this will do.
