I’m using this product on a bookshelf, not on a desk, therefore appearance is not important to me. If it was, this not the divider I would pick. The sides of my bookshelf are not open, so it should be sturdy enough. If it was in an open spot and it contained anything heavy, the sides might lean. This item has a really cool design wherein it is all one peice that can fold flat or into the divider shape. This makes putting the unit together very easy, but it also lends itself to being less study than a metal magazine/paper sorter. I've been using mine as part of a charging station I build to hold ipads and laptops and it has been doing well. I think if you loaded this thing up with heavy magazines you may exceed the limits of the plastic. I would think this would work well for the vast majority of people though.
