  • Outstanding battery!
Size: 32GB Version
I love this tablet. The battery life is awesome. I had a Lenovo Tab A 10 and I was looking for something with more onboard storage than 16 gigs (plus my Lenovo had some serious problems after it upgraded to Marshmallow--dropping connections constantly and scrambled graphics for two examples). The only con is that the graphics aren't the best, but IMO the longevity of the battery more than makes up for that. I pound on my tablet all day, playing games and reading, and generally I have to charge overnight from 15% or less. With this tab, the most I've managed to deplete of the battery in one day is down to 66%. I'm not overselling it; my Lenovo has a great battery too, but not as great as this! I had originally intended to replace my Lenovo with the Asus ZenPad 3S 10 because, on paper anyway, you can't beat the specs for the money. The battery life on that thing was awful though and I sent it back the next day. The other thing some people may think is a con is that Samsung ships their tablets with a non-stock version of Android, so it feels more like an iPad OS than an Android, but it's quick to get used to it so I'm not counting that. I don't think this tablet is future proof because it's already slightly outdated, but for playing the games I want to play and for reading and not having to worry about the thing dying right away, it's more than worth the money to me. I searched and searched for a tablet under $300 with great specs, and other than the ZenPad (with the crappy battery), this tablet is pretty much it. If you can spend $600, then get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, as that is top of line. This tab does come with Korean language to start, but it's very easy to switch to English. It does have a European plug with an American adapter, but I just plugged the usb cord into one of other other million American charger plugs I have so I don't have to deal with the European adapter thing. I was really worried about buying a tablet not meant for the American market, but my fears were totally baseless. Get it today! Edit: I'm taking a star off this tablet review because after 7 months of daily use, the battery has started to drain a lot faster (but it's still the best battery life I've ever had in a tablet) and I've been subjected to the dreaded Samsung black screen problem that plagues its line of tablets. What happens is that your tablet becomes seemingly unresponsive to any push of the power button or the home button and you cannot do a hard reset on it by holding down the volume down and power button simultaneously either. I had to take the back case/housing off the tablet and check all the connections. It turned out that the main LCD ribbon was loose from its connector, but upon pushing it back in squarely and firmly, the problem didn't correct. I had to also pull the battery ribbon loose from its connector and reconnect it to correct the problem. The most difficult part of fixing the tablet was getting the back case off, because unless you have a special tool, you're not really meant to be able to take the housing off the tablet. It was not terribly difficult to correct the problem, but it was annoying and I also cracked the housing slightly around the micro USB chip opening when I popped the back off off. There are a lot of videos on YouTube of how to do what I did, and if you buy this tablet, you may end up having to do that yourself. ... show more

  • Good tablet
Size: 16GB Bundle
Iv'e been enjoying this tablet for the past week. right out of the box my tablet came with android 7.0 (nougat) installed and was upgradable to android 8.1 (oreo). the battery life is decent if you don't have the brightness on full and if you don't use it at hours at a time. volume is great and i love that it feels light in the hands, but not too lightweight, it's obviously not as light as the newest iPad or Samsung galaxy tab S, but that's better for me because i feel like i'm less likely to drop it with the weight it has. rear camera is great, and the front camera is just ok, but i didn't but this tablet to be taking pics and vids with, i hardly even do that with my phone. even though it came with a 32gb SDcard i have a big issue about that. i inserted the card and i see no option on the tablet to format the card as internal memory. so that means the memory on this tablet isn't really expandable. i took it out and put the same card on my phone to see if it would let me expand the memory on my phone, and it gave me the option to do so. i downloaded some apps and only a small few of them could be moved to the SDcard. so unless you plan on using the SDcard to save pics/vids and music on it's totally useless and you're basically stuck with just the 16gb of memory on the tablet (actually about 10gb since Samsung has pre-installed apps that cant be uninstalled). the only other issue that i have with this tablet is that it takes about 5 hours to charge on a dead battery. so it's best to let it charge overnight. other than those two flaws i love it. i ordered a case and a screen protector from amazon and they both fit great on it. i only plan on using this tablet for a few years until i can afford a more better expensive tablet. this is only the second tablet that i have owned, the first being a cheap 10 inch RCA tablet. this one blows that one out of the park. ... show more

  • Good value for the price with some caveats
Size: 16GB Bundle
I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 because the newer game I was running would crash my graphics a few times a week. This tablet, with a better graphics speed and 0.5G more RAM (my Tab 4 had 1.5G), seems to have fixed this problem. Battery life is better than my Tab 4 is, even when the Tab 4 was new. The overall quality of this tablet is excellent and what we've come to expect from Samsung. I did, however, have a couple issues which I thought folks should know about, particularly if you're switching from another tablet. First, whereas my Tab 4 has the Home, Recent Apps, and Return keys on the long edge of the screen (on the bottom in landscape), they are on the short edge of the screen on my Tab A. Where this can be an issue is when using the Tab A in landscape mode because it's really easy to accidentally hit the Return key which, if you're playing a game, can put you in the hurt locker. Personally, I think where these buttons are on the Tab 4 is a better choice as, in over 2 years of using it, I never accidentally hit them regardless of whether I was holding it in portrait or landscape mode. Also, it seems like the magnetic pickup for the auto sleep/auto wake feature is too sensitive and thus, when the top of my Smart cover is flipped over, it tends to put the tablet to sleep. This happened with both covers I tried and there seems to be no way of shutting off the auto sleep/auto wake. So, if you purchase this tablet, keep this in mind and perhaps buy a cover without a magnet. ... show more
