  • Comfortable and sturdy
Size: 12 Wide Color: Crown Blue/Evening Blue/Sunny Lime
This is my second pair of this style; I have the short style or the shoe version. Love that shoe! It has been over a year of hiking in the rocky, sandy desert, and the treads have just started to wear down. I am loving the wider width of this boot. I usually don't wear a wide width but that was the only option for my shoe size. I have bunions and the wider width is definitely more comfortable in that area of my foot. Also, the weight is not to heavy. I bought these specifically for a inner canyon overnight trip to the Grand Canyon. ... show more

  • Comfortable, light and dry.
Size: 8 Color: Shadow/Castor Gray/Beach Glass
Very happy with this purchase. They are the most comfortable hiking boots I've ever owned. Did a 5 mile hike into the Grand Canyon. Transitioning from snow , ice and then rocks. Nice grip. Had spikes for ice as it had gotten packed on the trail and very slick. I've always been a big Merrill's fan, but not anymore. These are my new go to boots. They handled light snow very well. Feet stayed nice and dry and cozy warm. The key to dry feet is proper socks for the weather and conditions. No boot is a hundred percent waterproof unless you are wearing hard plastic water boots that fishermen wear or waders. Comfort is key to long hikes and these did a wonderful job. Very light. I'm sold. I've had them for over a year now and they are still holding up. Last pics is wear and tear from over a year of usage. ... show more

  • I ordered two sizes.
Size: 8 Color: Shadow/Castor Gray/Beach Glass
Having a very difficult time deciding which one is right! But I like the boot because if has two sets of grommets for lacing and a tab above the heel for pulling them on.

  • Most durable, comfortable hiking boots I've ever owned. Great traction!
I've been wearing these boots daily for almost 1.5 years. They have been, and continue to be, wonderfully durable, comfortable, and supportive. This is the most money I've ever spent on a pair of boots, but it was well worth it, given how much I depend on them. On a daily basis, I use these boots when walking up and down a steep trail with lots of loose rocks and areas of loose, silty soil, and the traction is fantastic. On my daily hike, there are also a lot of thorn bearing trees that drop thorny twigs (kiawe trees, if that rings a bell with any readers). These are vicious thorns that are often an inch or more long. - Not once has a thorn penetrated into the inside of the boot. The thorns certainly get stuck in the outsole and I remove them with pliers every day, but they haven't penetrated to the inside so far. The boots are breathable and are also definitely water repellent. I've worn them in rainy conditions and my feet stay mostly dry. There was no break-in period required when they were new. - They were comfortable from the start. The all-around support of the boot has held steady through all this daily use: They haven't become worn or compressed on any areas, and this is despite the fact that I have an uneven gait and uneven foot strike due to asymmetrical legs and scoliosis. The toe box allows plenty of room, but not so much that I am sliding around inside. (And this is even though I have problems with many shoes rubbing the nail on my big toe.) My heel is also held supportively. I have a medium-high arch, and the arch in this boot is just right for me, but I think it would also be fine for someone with low arches. (I bought a pair of these boots for my husband, who has low arches, and he has no complaints.) The outside and inside of the upper have no tears, separations, or any other problems after all this use on rough trails. Likewise, the sole (bottom of the boots) is in great shape despite all the thorns and rocks - Hardly looks worn at all. These boots are quick and easy to lace. - You will want to double knot the laces because they are round laces. The only drawback to these boots is that if you wear them in sticky mud, you will need to put in some work to get the mud out of outsole. - That's the trade-off for the traction you get with the design of the "lugs" and the rest of the outsole. As you can probably tell, I have been very impressed with these boots and have recommended them to friends and family. These aren't going to wear out anytime soon, but when they do, I'll be sticking with this boot - Hope Salomon continues to make them. ... show more

  • Super Comfortable Boot, sturdy, good traction, looks great
Size: 6 Color: Crown Blue/Evening Blue/Sunny Lime
I just returned from hiking in the Pisgah State Forest outside of Asheville ,NC. I am not a "hiker". I usually run, but we went hiking on this last trip. The longest I spent in these boots was 8 hours and they were super comfortable. I have an almost flat foot with a history of bad plantar fascitis. Everyone thinks that a flat foot needs a strong arch support, but it's not always true. My feet are flat but strong, and easily aggravated by things bunching under the arch. I didn't give these boots any break in time and for my flat foot, the orthotic included, irritated my foot and felt like a big ball on the wrong spot on my foot. So I swapped out the included orthotic and put in one that I use in my running shoes. My first short hike, I got a little scared because I wasn't used to a foot being really supported. As I walked, I realized that the muscles in my feet were working a bit differently but there was no impact under the arch and therefore the underside of my foot never got fascitis. The next hike, my feet were much more ready and that's when I really started enjoying the feel of these boots. I'd read reviews that said the boots were not waterproof so I was really scared when I started going through puddles of melted frost. I don't know what the deepest puddle was, but my feet remained dry. Honestly I tried to avoid a lot of wet, but I wore them while it rained lightly and my feet were dry. As for traction, they really do have great grip. There were many parts of the trails where it was a steep incline covered with wet leaves. The boots really gripped on both the ascent and descent. I was worried they'd slip, but I definitely felt a confidence with how firmly my foot felt on the ground. The boots are very lightweight as well. I am always a size 6 and I ordered a size 6 and there was room for 2 pairs of socks. It was a bit tight to begin with in 2 socks, but the toe length was perfect (I have a normal width foot but square-ish foot shape) and the toes really had a lot of room. As others have said, the laces are very slippy at first and they came loose twice on my first hike. After that, I took the laces and kind of scuffed them up. Once the laces lost that brand new, shiny coating, they gripped very well and did not loosen on steep inclines. I def recommend scuffing up the laces first. The temp outside was 40 deg down to about 28-32 and my feet were warm in 2 pairs of socks. Because my feet didn't really sweat in that cold temps (cold for me, I'm from Florida), I can't say how they'd do in hot weather although I wouldn't hesitate for the next time I am out in hot temps. The boot was very attractive on my foot and I received compliments on them from tour guides. They are definitely worth the money. Back to the flat foot/arch issue. After 3 hikes, I put back in the orthotic that came with the boots. My feet were now used to the boot and the arch no longer felt like a ball was under it. Next time I go hiking, I will leave the orthotic in. So bottom line, if you have flat feet/or get plantar fascitis, you really should take some walks in these boots first so your feet can get used to the feel and not freak out in the middle of a hike. I didn't do that because I 'just wanna go' but if you have any impulse control, take a few break in walks before the real hike. ... show more
