Top Amazon Reviews

  • Immediate comfort
Size: 8.5 Wide Color: Army/Green/Black/Orange
Out of the box the Nortiv 8 hiking boots fit better than I had hoped. Over the years I’ve worn out many different brands of hiking boots, some, of course, better than others. And more expensive. My latest light hikers, Mont Belle ,would still be in use now except that after so many years of hard abuse they kinda fell apart and I didn’t feel right filing a warranty claim. So I shopped around looking for something comfortable, durable, and that wouldn’t leave me barefoot in the national park. Found the Nortiv 8 with “wide” option, read the reviews and took a chance. Gotta admit, the price was attractive too. When I received the boots USPS, I inspected their construction, scrutinized them from heel to toe. There is lots of stitching where many competitors are just gluing. It is usually only on boots costing twice as much that you start to see this kind of construction. Many of my previous hikers fell apart as a result of sole adhesives letting go. It’s so annoying. My personal feeling is that I get longer wear from stitched uppers as opposed to reliance on glue alone, which always seems to be where boots fail. And there are limits to what a shoe glue repair can do. As for the Active 8 boots in the field, they were immediately comfortable, required no break-in period, and felt like old friends back on a familiar trail together. I had no rubs, no blisters, and no irritations whatsoever. There is room for an insert, but that doesn’t seem necessary. I fully expected these boots to “ fail” their inaugural hike and need to be returned. In that regard I was surprised and wrong. They were great. As an observation, they don’t seem to breathe well, but it’s a small consideration that can be easily overcome by slightly loosening up lacing while hiking. I’m not complaining. I mourn the demise of my Mont Belles, but in the Active 8s I have found what I believe to be well made and comparable boots at suitable retiree pricing. Only time will tell if these boots will be durable and live up to their predecessor. But I think I’ll likely wear out before these boots do. If you’re searching for quality without compromise, at an affordable price, the Active 8 boots might be where your search ends. Take these out on your next walkabout. You’ll see. ... show more

  • Hunt tested
Size: 14 Wide Color: Brown/Black/Tan
I bought these to wear for 2024 hunting season in Ohio. They are comfortable and fit well. They are warm and accommodate enough space for two pairs of socks. They are light weight. The materials, design and fit closely resemble Irish setter hunt boots that I’ve owned in the past and paid three times more for. These are well built and a great deal at the 30% discounted price. I’ll buy another pair and save myself from having to spend more than double the price for something comparable. ... show more

  • Great boot for the price
Size: 13 Color: Brown/Black/Tan
A few months of heavy use and these boots have held up rather nicely in some rough wear conditions. Waterproofing might not quite be up to par with more expensive brands, my right boot has an unseen small hole/rip/seam-separation that is allowing small amounts of water in near the toes which I noticed only after spending hours walking through a particularly wet snow (more like slush really). I've examined for external damage resulting from a brush with something sharp (nail, stick, cactus spine) but can't see anything obvious to the naked eye. The treads are nice, sticky to most surfaces I've tested them on, even shoreline rocks slick with algae and some icy patches. Ankle, foot comfort is good, sturdy support. Fit is nice, accurate. Overall extremely comparable to KEEN without the high cost, will update if the sole holds up better than the notoriously flimsy KEEN. I do miss the bigger toe-box a little bit, but I have huge Flintstone feet so your mileage may vary. ... show more

  • Good enough for dog walking.....
Size: 8.5 Color: Brown/Black/Tan
I bought these because we can no longer buy KEEN shoes.... they removed the comfortable round toe box. We all need to find a better replacement. These ankle boots will work. They seem sturdy enough for everyday long dog walks, for kicking around in a few inches of snow and shoveling and they're comfortable. I took them on a 5 1/5 mile walk out of the box and no issues to speak of. They will need a few more long walks to completely break in and get a bit softer. I bought the soft serve rather than the leather because I have sensitive feet, but will go back and buy a pair of leather ones when they go back on sale. The traction is not quite 4 mm and not quite as deep as the other brand shoes but it's enough to get the job done for now. I bought a half size up so I can wear very thick winter socks and that works well along with a installed 3/4 blue Birkenstock arch support. The dark brown is very dark and a nice color if you don't need to be noticed. They look very much like other brands which sell dark brown boots. They do feel breathable and not too hot. Overall, the price is good and they seem like they'll hold up for my needs. ... show more

  • Happy feet, happy life
Size: 12 Color: Black/Dark/Grey
(I couldn't think of an appropriate word rhyming with 'feet'.) My quest for a new pair of boots started with an ad in my news feed for shoes that were supposed to help with diabetic neuropathy. I was skeptical. So I started looking into scientific research. This area needs far more study. But what I did find pointed in exactly the opposite direction from the ad. What a surprise, eh? What I should look for is good support and good cushioning. Seems like common sense, doesn't it? Running/walking shoes, very good; light hiking boots better. I am working with a constrained budget, and many of the name brand boots were too expensive. These looked good; had good reviews; had the features I want, including removable insoles. That last is important to me because replacing the insole is how you can adjust the fit and cushioning. So how about reviewing the boots. Yeah, it's about time. The boots fit. They are extremely comfortable. Obviously that is a personal judgement... they fit my feet. Objectively, they are warm and dry. I tested them on a 2 mile hike at 40ºF through tall, wet grass and weeds. I have not replaced the insoles as the stock one is surprisingly cushy. All in all, not just a great value, but an excellent boot. And they came with spare shoelaces. ... show more
