This is a really great little thing to own, it's radically improved my showering experience. I use it to maintains stability while scrubbing my legs and feet, and I do so by putting my hand on this handle and pushing my weight into it. The box explicitly states not to use this to pull yourself up, and that is correct, you can and will get injured. I say that because despite only ever pushing into it, it does sometimes lose its suction on its own, and I have to thoroughly dry both it and the shower wall before reattaching it. That's why I only give it 4 stars, despite the seemingly-strong suction it is still prone to unsticking which could potentially cause an injury. Again I only ever push into it, I never pull it, if anything the suction should be getting stronger not weaker. It's still a great device, and extremely useful, but it's worth lightly jiggling it every now and again to confirm that it's still properly attached to your wall. ... show more

I ordered this after slipping in the shower while standing on one foot and washing the bottom of other one (like and idiot, I now realize). I didn't go all the way down, but it was close. Some reviews said it wouldn't stay locked in place, but mine is still stuck like glue to my fiberglass shower's wall after I cleaned the attachment spots well with scrubbing bubbles and a clean old cotton sock. I bought these for my mom since she has balance issues in the shower and has fallen a few times. I just want to make sure you understand that this is just for balance and the bars won’t hold a lot of weight. If somebody is falling and they grab a bar, it’s going to come off. I think the only way around this is to use some kind of permanent waterproof adhesive, but I didn’t want to do that. To assist with falling without adhesive, you will need to have bars installed. I have stability issues, needed this for my shower. It holds very well on my fiberglass wall. One time I put too much weight on it and it did pop off, but that’s to be expected, not a fault of the product. Otherwise, it works very well.

Hint and Advice: MEASURE THE PITCH BETWEEN TILES FIRST BEFORE ORDERING THIS. These 16" bars didn't fit the tiles horizontally/vertically so I ended up placing them diagonally to match the square tiles in my parent's tub.

I bought the bar to help with my husband's shower after he got out of the hospital. The bar holds well but occasionally needs to be adjusted as the suction did not hold all the time but for the most part was useful for his decreased mobility.

Last summer while traveling for work, I slipped & feel in a hotel bath tub shower that had no grab rails or non-skid on the tub surface. I'm 65 and fractured 2 ribs and sprained the R. wrist. In addition, i broke the tiolet on the fall down. I learned a valuable lesson...Bring these with you while traveling as you don't always get "WALK-IN" type showers at older hotels.
