  • The battery does not hold a charge very long
Size: RunCam2 4K
I like this camera very much except for the battery. It will not hold a charge more than 15 minutes and it gets hot. My iPhone loses WiFi signal after one minute while I'm right next to the camera. Then it will not stop recording so I have to pull the battery to get it to stop recording. Sometime the forced stop works by pushing both buttons at the same time but sometimes it doesn't work. I think I have a defective battery as the charging time is very short, less than 30 minutes. The video quality is excellent, even on 1080x60fps setting. I use it to record my HO scale trains and mount the camera on a flat car. It's small size is enough go even pass through the tunnels without issues. ... show more

  • Disapointed in features that disappeared
Size: RunCam2 4K
I have had RunCam's since the first one. After using the RC2 for a few years I decided to go for the 4K to grab screen shots that would fit my computer monitor with higher resolution. I have been running the cams off of a power bank and that allowed 2 or 3 hours of filming. But the 4K doesn't run off of external power with the battery in the camera and if you try it, it loses it setup. Seems like a simple software fix would allow the external power and the battery at the same time. Also, the 128GB limit on the memory card would only allow 80 or 90 minutes of filming, it would be far better to have a 256GB card. So I'm disappointed in the purchase. ... show more

  • Wi-Fi connection has too much lag
Size: RunCam2 4K
The whole point of the Wi-Fi connection is to have real time video, but there was too much lag. Other than that it seems like a decent camera, but real time was what I needed so I returned it.

  • Good quality lightweight 4K camera so long as you don't need real time video beyond 30ft
Size: RunCam2 4K
Great camera for drone and rc planes so long as you don't need real time video. The wifi range is lacking for any in flight use with its 10m limit, but it works well for fast and easy configuration via app in the field. Its light weight and ability to record while charging makes it a good high resolution option for high altitude balloon flights so long as properly insulated as the reported operating temperature is only down to -10C. The recorded video resolution is very good but I wish it had 60fps at 4k instead of 30fps. Battery life is decent for the weight class at around 60 minutes which exceeds the flight time of most drones that it would be used on. The included mounting bracket and standard screw mount option is very useful for versatility in attaching to most implementations and makes for quick and easy attachment and removal. ... show more

  • Not worth for what it is
Size: RunCam2 4K With 128G SD Card
It feels real cheap and hollow, cheap plastic, cheap battery, expensive product. Image is just so so, it is not 4K at all, my old Mobius 1080 has better image. I am debating if I return it at moment as the only good feature is the wi-fi connection, that's all.

  • 100% satisfied (get a U3 micro SD card)
Size: RunCam2 4K
I am absolutely thrilled with this camera. I bought it to make Hot Wheels track video as an alternative to the GoPro session which has been hard to find. It has worked flawlessly. An unexpected bonus was that recording in 120 fps results in really clear slow motion when editing in iMovie. My next use for the camera was to replace the camera on my VIVITAR skeyview drone. As a drone camera the standalone WiFi doesn’t have the range to act as an FPV. However it comes with the wires needed to hook up to an FPV transmitter. I did not buy the recommended micro SD, however I made sure to buy a U3 micro SD. This probably saved me from the recording problems that have plagued other users. I am using a scandisk 64gb U3 micro SD. I bought it at target because I didn’t want to wait for it. ... show more

  • Takes amazing video and fits in a small form factor!
Size: RunCam2 4K
This camera is absolutely great. It can record in 1080 @120fps, 2k @60fps, or 4k @30fps (and it can do 30/60 fps for 1080 and 2k). The battery lasted long enough for me to leave it recording for nearly 30 minutes at 2k @60fps. It will auto-segment videos if they exceed a certain length (appears to be about 8:30 for 2k @60fps). It was able to survive being launched aboard my rocket to 6,000' and landing quite hard at nearly 45 mph so it's quite durable. One thing to note was my camera had worked great on arrival but after I left it to sit for about 3 months it refused to work again. I may have simply had a defective unit but their customer support was very helpful. They gave me instructions on how to attempt to fix the camera and ended up sending me a brand new one as I could not get the broken one to turn back on. Overall a great experience and a great camera! ... show more

  • Quirky behaviors
Size: RunCam2 4K
Meh, it's just OK once you work through its quirks. It usually just stops recording after about 5 seconds for the first record after it is powered on rendering the auto-record feature unreliable at best if not completely useless. Subsequent records do continue, so that's a really weird bug. Or to put it another way, you basically have to watch it for at least 10 seconds after you click record or power it on with the auto-record feature enabled. If it makes it past that then you're probably good to go, otherwise you have to start it recording again and that usually works. It corrupted one of my cards that I formatted in the camera using the mobile app. I've had better luck if I do a full overwrite format (not quick format) using the official SD-3C card formatter, so I'd suggest doing that rather than using the format option in their app. I'm using this on a FPV plane as a secondary method to get some HD footage, so it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work. I'd much rather lose this thing in a crash than one of my GoPros. The 4K footage is alright and I like the low profile form factor for most RC applications as well. It's also nice that you can wire it into your flight controller for power. Still, I'm not sure it's worth the price paid given all these goofy firmware/hardware quirks. I surely wouldn't trust it for a main FPV camera. I've used a lot of RunCam FPV cameras in the past and they worked well, so it's a bit disappointing that this action cam offering of theirs is so quirky. ... show more
