May 2022 Update: After using this door for almost a year now, we still love it! The only issue we've had is in the winter when it would rain and then get really cold soon thereafter, the door to be a bit frozen and could not open. I like that the door would try to open, then stop. It reassures me that it won't break so easily! Our idea going forward for this winter is to create a bit more of an overhang to keep more moisture away from the door. All we had to do was just open our coop's side door to let the crew out. Regardless, we love this door and it makes life so much easier for us! Loving this door! Installed easily. We watched the installation video before attempting. We had a small saw that we could use to cut out the hole and drills/screwdriver, etc. So I would recommend watching the install video before buying to make sure you have the tools you need to install. It works great and we've had zero issues so far with opening and closing via the factory default settings. The chickens are happy and we are too! It has rained several times, heavy rains, no weather related issues noted. The price is a bit high but it's lower than most automatic doors. At first I chose this door due to that fact, however, I have found that I prefer the way this door looks along with the mechanism for opening and closing as compared to the other automatic doors. I make sure to keep an eye on the door by checking for any debris in the track. The bottom of the door has a very tiny gap for debris to fall through on it's own, so I haven't had anything get stuck but I just want to maintain it well so it lasts as long as possible. ... show more

    • Life Changing! Why didn't we do this sooner?
Highly recommend. Amazing product. We've had chickens for 5 years in our Seattle city house. We've gone out in the rain and dark all winter to let them in and out every day. We knew about auto doors but didn't think they would work for us. Finally ordered the Run Chicken Door (and a couple others that we returned) and life is SO much better! No more before-school wet runs to the coop in the dark! No more forgetting to close the door at 4pm winter dusk. Absolutely life-changing. My teen is very grateful too! Easy to install, easy to program. Works very well, chickens caught right on. Amazing while we were out of town last week!     • Do NOT buy this if you have cold temps
I bought this chicken door in May 2023, so I've had it less than 2 years. Sometimes I go out of town overnight and need to be sure my chickens can go into their run for food and water - and the door shuts at night to be protected from predators. The first winter, it worked properly. Now in the second winter: A few weeks ago, our temperatures dropped into the 20s. The door did not open automatically in the morning. Batteries were changed, which did not help. Whenever the temps are in the 20s or below, this door will not open. Initially, I was able to manually open it. Now, it will sometimes not open manually. The product information listed says that it will work in extreme weather: in snow, rain and dust from -15 degrees F to 140 degrees F. This is false information. I have no way of contacting the seller to remedy this. I bought this door, depending on the claim that it would work in low temperatures. I will have to purchase another door from another company because I need to be able to depend on the coop door opening. Less than 2 years working properly is unacceptable. ... show more
