Size:5 Quart (160 Ounce), (Pack of 3) Motor oil is made from crude oil and is used to lubricate, clean, and cool engines. Types of motor oil include conventional, synthetic, diesel, bio-based, hybrid (blends of conventional and synthetic), and recycled oils. Motor oil varies in weight and viscosity, as well as additives that some manufacturers add to the oil during the refining process. A numerical code system created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) grade motor oils according to viscosity, the higher the number between 0 and 60, the more viscous (thicker) the oil is. Most consumer motor oils are graded by two numbers, with the first number indicating cold weather (Winter or "W") performance. This oil has a weight of SAE 0W-20, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 0 in cold temperatures and a rating of 20 at normal operating temperature. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify that this is the correct weight of motor oil for your vehicle. This oil is fully synthetic, meaning crude oil is not used in making it. Synthetic oil often provides superior mechanical performance over traditional motor oil, including increased gas mileage and reduced engine wear at extreme temperatures. Its complex method of production means it can often cost more than conventional motor oil. I have been using Royal Purple synthetic oil for years in a variety of vehicles. The product just keeps getting better! While it costs significantly more than other synthetics, I strongly believe that RP adds mileage and better wear on bearings and other engine components. Our latest use is on our motorhome on a Ford E450 Super Duty chassis with V10 engine. Immediately quieted down from the previous oil, and added at least 7/10ths MPG. We also used RP for changing the oil in our Onan 4000 KW internal generator which also purred after use. I have another valve adjustment near 300,000 miles on my 2008 V6 Honda Accord. The technician asked me what additives or oil I was using because he has never seen an engine this clean free from carbon deposits. I told him that I have been using this oil since 125,000 miles ago or sooner.

    • Initial Thoughts, Better Than Mobil

So, dumb realization first, I did not know that the oil would literally be purple. I thought with 100% certainty that Royal Purple was just a name. Second, the engine seems quieter than it used to be, puttering its way up a hill at 1,300 RPM has less drone than I remember. Same with freeway drone. (70 = 2600 RPM thereabouts) I really wish I could compare overall engine performance and noise level but there are suspension problems that get aggravated when its driven rough, so that will wait until I get that fixed. The oil I used before was some Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W20 coupled with a parts master filter. This time around I put in about 5.5 quarts of this coupled with a Motorcraft filter. Engine: Ford Duratec 3.0 DOHC with about 195k on it. Surprisingly peppy motor for a station wagon. Apparently via some independent testing, Royal Purple oil is among the best for wear protection, resulting in an increase in fuel efficiency, (and more power... maybe) but does not handle cold starts very well when the climate itself is cold. I will see in the days ahead whether that is true or not (if that is something I can even hear or notice). MPG before RP: 20 in the winter and about 21 in the summer MPG after RP: TBA ... show more

I have zero respect for people who don't change their own oil. I have an acquaintance who was the manager at major chain quick oil change place, and holy smokes! people are absolutely crazy to trust their second most valuable possession to these clowns. Consider yourself lucky if they changed you for a service they didn’t do. Do yourself self a favor and Just spend 15 min and do the oil change yourself, your car and your wallet will thank you for it. Yes this motor oil costs more, but I never compromise on anything that goes on my daughter's Scion TC. I only skimp on the oil for my F150 since it's easier for me to squeeze in an oil change at shorter 3k intervals. It tents to be more difficult for me to squeeze in an oil change on my daughter's car, with her busy schedule, Royal Purple gives me some extra piece of mind between the occasional long oil change between 5K to 7K intervals, and I’d easily feel comfortable with a 10k, in a pinch. Her Scion TC seems to run quieter, and I noticed it burns less oil. The Royal Purple oil filter alone is built like a tank, compared to the tin-can oil filters I put in my F150. Royal Purple is worth every penny If you ask me, and since it’s harder to find locally, getting delivered makes it that much better. Thank you. ... show more

Best oil for hemi engines... Just performed first oil change on 2017 grand Cherokee Hemi. While I have not appreciated the infamous hemi ticking, the engine is smoother and quieter - I know this is extremely subjective, but testing does show better protection against wear and excellent flow in cold starts among other criteria. Royal purple is a group IV oil and is absolutely a top oil for high performance engines. Time will tell how well the oil performs.... ... show more

it is a fine oil product, but it is not going to work any better than any other full synthetic product when changed at appropriate intervals. I don't know why I thought it was going to be some magic elixir that was going to make a big difference. I'm also not running a high performance vehicle just a truck so i'll stick with a "regular" full synthetic like i normally do. ... show more

I'll admit that I was a Mobil 1 guy for a looooooong time. I bought a 3rd Gen Ram a few years back and always found myself topping it off every 1k. It wasn't excessive, and within the realm of reports from other Hemi owners but I thought there had to be something better. Tried some of the other name brand full synthetics out there, but they were all about the same. I decided to penny up and try RP. Long story short, RP really minimized the oil consumption I saw from the other oils. Moving forward, I now have a 4th Gen Ram with the Hemi and began using this right from the first oil change. I will continue using RP as I have no issues. I also began using RP in my zero turn mower and it runs smoother than it ever has. Maybe it's the purple color, maybe it's science, whatever it is it makes my engines happy so I am happy.....PS Amazon makes the price bearable and I have not had any issues with ordering the 5qt jug online. I use Royal Purple motor oil on my Mustang, and honestly, there are very few other brands I would trust to consistently keep my engine in good running shape. It's pricier than other brands, but RP has a history of quality performance products, and I am never displeased with the way my car performs after getting a fresh batch of RP oil.
