  • Great Price for a Great Oil - Recommended!
Size: 5 Quart Style: High Mileage Configuration: 5W-30
Received a great price for a great oil. But sadly since that great price I have only seen that price available to Prime Members. I have been using Castrol GTX since the 1980's and have always sworn by it being it has never let me down. I have never had an blow a seal, gasket, leak or burn oil while using Castrol GTX. And that is saying a lot as I use to be very hard on my vehicles, and can still be from time to time. One time I busted a hole in my radiator by accident in a parking lot over 15 miles from home. Having no tools or anything with me to fix the problem and being it was late night on a friday I had no choice. But to drive the car home as fast as I could before I lost all the radiator fluid and in turn over heating the car. Well long story short, the car made it home but was long out of antifreeze and the temperature gauge was buried in the red. Fearful for the engine I allowed the vehicle to sit over night to cool off. And the next day she started right up and was as good as always. I have always credited that moment to the fact I had Castrol GTX in the car and in turn is what saved the engine from the excessive heat. As I have not had the same luck other brand names of oil, as I have replaced two engines while using the brand name M. one. Due to my history with and without Castrol GTX motor oil, when I made my recent purchase of a high mileage Chevrolet Blazer 4x4 as a fun, toy around vehicle to haul things with and to play in the snow. Of course I drained the old motor oil out and gave her a fresh batch of Castrol GTX. I did the same for our other car as well. I would easily recommend this product to my friends and family. The oil arrived safely and in a timely manner. I was actually surprised they could ship motor oil as I figured that would be a hazard, but I guess the post office knows better. If you have a Prime Membership, you can almost always find Castrol GTX cheaper on Amazon than at any retail location even with a coupon or on sale. We were not paid nor discounted in any way, shape or form for giving our honest opinion here of this product as a review to assist others. We believe, as a family, it is important to give an honest and accurate review to assist others so they can make good purchasing decisions that can benefit them and their family. And not be lead to cheap, unwanted purchases that are scripted by advertisers to buy their products. We are a family that believes in a minimalist lifestyle while trying to be green as much as possible in all departments of our life. As we care to leave something, anything, of this planet to our grandchildren so they may enjoy it as we have. ... show more

  • It’s Oil.
Size: 5 Quart Style: High Mileage Configuration: 5W-30
I personally do not exactly choose one brand of oil over another. This oil seems to be as good as any to me. I chose the high mileage variant because I can only assume there is a reason to do so in a higher mileage older vehicle. The price was right and matched the price at local stores. Since I was able to plan ahead, I ordered from Amazon and had it shipped saving me the trip to the store. I much prefer to do my own oil changes for the savings and to know it’s not rushed or done incorrectly. Will probably stick with this brand going forward for my old pickup. ... show more

  • Only brand I use is Castrol GTX.
Size: 5 Quart Style: High Mileage Configuration: 5W-30
My father was a mechanic since he was a teenager (in his seventies now). He's had more engines torn apart than I've had Reese's cups and at all different mileages. He told me he's never had an oil-related problem be evident on any engine that has had Castrol GTX as its standard. If you can get the conventional, it is one of the few made with mineral oil and not paraffin wax like a lot of other "national" brands are. He says that makes a difference. Now, I've only had a few engines apart, none of them more than once, so I can't speak to the same effect. However, I can say that Castrol GTX is the only -- the ONLY -- brand oil I've used in any of the vehicles I've owned and I've never had a problem from the engines after taking ownership. Our Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar had 30,000 miles on it when we got it and I've been less than strict on how frequently I've changed its oil (one time right after COVID we went about a year but only 7,000 miles), but it now has over 99,000 and is still going strong with no indication of oil or oil-related failure (coolant system and transmission are other stories). I've also only ever used Castrol GTX in the Pontiac 2.2L Ecotec. Same deal, drove it since nearly brand new (dealership handled the oil before I came into the picture). Now has just under 80,000 on it, zero mechanical problems. I'm not a GM guy but this has been a very good powertrain. I feel bad taking the used oil to the local shop for disposal since I buy it online (meaning they're not making money on me), but nowhere brick-and-mortar has it at as low a price as Amazon (that I've seen, at least). Plus, if they have Castrol, they don't have Purolator filters I use. Odd, that. Granted, I'm only saving about 5 or 6 dollars a jug, but being able to use the leftover on the next change, I just buy two or three at a time and store it until its time comes up. ... show more

  • Its oil.
Size: 5 Quart Style: High Mileage Configuration: 5W-30
It's oil. Its reasonably priced. The car doesn't mind. The jugs survived shipping. I have one vehicle that specifically calls for Castrol brand oil. I know there are many equivalent choices but I just go with the suggestion. It has survived over 160k miles and still doesn't consume or leak a drop so apparently its adequate! I now use this as my standard oil in several other high mileage vehicles that call for the same viscosity. In a 205,000 mile warhorse, I was having oil related issues with a vvt solenoid. It would gum up before every oil change. I went so far as to buy the new solenoid but after switching to Castrol, the issue has disappeared. ... show more
