Royal Purple HPS Series motor oil is specifically formulated to maximize performance and meet the demands of high performance and modified engines. HPS is high performance street motor oil recommended for vehicles no longer under manufacturer warranty and for those seeking a higher level of performance and protection. Royal Purple’s HPS is fortified with a high level of zinc/phosphorus anti-wear additive and Royal Purple’s proprietary Synerlec additive technology. This unique blend enables HPS to outperform leading high performance synthetic oils and conventional lubricants for both gasoline and diesel engines. Available viscosities include: 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 20W-50. Royal Purple HPS Series of motor oil responds to increased pressure with increased viscosity. Improved sealing between the piston ring and cylinder wall maximizes horsepower and torque. Its advanced additive technologies improve the condition of metal-to-metal contact under severe load. Great oil, its the only thing I use in my car and truck. I have used this oil over several intervals and have had lab tests done by Black Stone labs. Originally I onlt performed 8,000-10,000mi interval changes but found I had room for more. I am currently running 15,000mi intervals in both vehicles whixh is what RP recommends.     • Great Oil - Especially for older and performance Engines.
Oil can be broken down into 3 categories in my mind - Junk, "Good Enough" and Great. There are a lot of good enough oils out there but few great oils. I will only run Great oils in performance oriented engines (or any turbo engine.) Royal Purple is one of the greats. HPS is a great street/daily driver oil and not for warrantied engines since it is not API approved. It contains a higher level of zinc/phosphorus (Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphates / ZDDP) anti-wear additive and Royal Purple’s proprietary Synerlec additive technology. The zinc/phosphorus levels used to be higher in all API approved oils but have been reduced out and starting with the 2004 API SM spec and it's reduced ZDDP allowance that premature engine wear became an issue. Many older engines are designed to have the higher ZDDP present and all engines benefit from it. Significant progress has been made in oil technology since 2004 and Royal Purple keeps up. I will stick with Royal Purple HPS as long as I can get it. Another benefit is I have found the detergents in Royal Purple products to be superior. I have a low mileage Cobra Mustang that had some oil consumption issues when I bought it. It can be a problem in many engines and these motors in particular. The previous owner was running a major brand synthetic - might be the most popular 1. I changed from the commonly sold synthetic of a major brand my first oil change. I believe the issue was related to build up. I was worried because the consumption seemed to get worse at first, but after about 2000 miles it quit using oil period and I have not looked back. The second important part of the equation is a quality oil filter. There are HUGE differences in oil filters. Debris in oil is a major issue. Not all filter media is equal and not all bypass setups are either. After some research I also use the Royal Purple filter for my car. Royal Purple is my number 1 oil for a 4 cylinder turbo engine. Runs smooth and quiet and plenty of pep. Plus I don't really need to change the oil every 3,000 miles like some others. I have been using RP HPS 10W-30, in the past for about 4 years. This time decided to order 5W-30, my motor sounds smooth and I am planning on sending used sample to blackstone labs for analysis. I am using E85 and 93 octane gas, so we'll see what they will say. I will update this review in the future. ... show more

    • NO OIL COMPARES
This product performs how described. Has a high concentration of zinc, detergents its own formula not found in ANY motor oil. Dramatically reduces engine friction leading to wear. The more you get on the petal, the slicker the oil becomes reducing wear and heat creating a stronger running engine. A bit more pricy than the average oil. You get what you pay for. Engines out of warranty, a must for this oil. I used liquid Molly engine flush for my BMW X5, romped on it, drained the oil and sludge, and added RP hps. Brought the engine back to base line and big changes in overall feel of the engine. Love it. Won't need to change for 8000miles, so I'm actually saving money. ... show more
