    • Great image quality, simple to use app, all at a great price
I've owned multiple dash cams at various price points. Most have been ok, but not great. Accessing the content even over WIFI was often complex and slow. I'm replacing a dashcam that was almost twice as much and had mediocre image quality. When I installed my new Rove dashcam I was amazed at how simple its operations were and the great image quality. Though there is no touch screen, the buttons as well as the app work so well I don't think a touchscreen is even needed. I was able to get access to videos in seconds using my phone. The mounting suction cup works far better than I expected. I live in a hot environment and past suction cup mounts always released in high heat. Not so the Rove. It's twist attachment function works fantastic. The camera even also comes with sticky mounts if desired. I travel a lot and switch vehicles and so being able to move the dashcam from one vehicle to another was a requirement for me. The Rove dashcam allows that and is just a fantastic camera. The fact that it is a US company was just icing on the cake for me. I highly, highly recommend this dash cam and will be buying a second for another vehicle.     • Surpassed my expectations
Pros: I like almost everything about this little cam. It has tons of features you can tinker with, but it also works right out of the box, just by plugging it in. Very little work to get it up and running. I also bought ROVE's memory card, which worked without any issue. The software and instructions/documentation are fantastic - very clear and well thought-out, which is rare for electronics these days, with most stuff being made overseas by folks who don't know English well. This camera is designed in the USA, manufactured in China - like Apple products. The unboxing experience was surprisingly fun, and obviously Apple-inspired. Build quality looks really solid - I see no flaws. Camera is very easy to mount. ROVE even included cleaning wipes for my windshield in the product packaging! It's little touches like this that show they put a lot of thought and care into this product. It's also really easy to get the videos onto my computer; I appreciate the no-hassle experience. ?: I haven't tested the night vision yet. One other feature I'm excited to try is time lapse mode. Cons: The camera stops recording as soon as the engine is turned off. I understand why it is designed this way. But I want to be able to record while I'm pulled over with the engine off. For example, if a police officer pulls me over. Cops usually tell you to turn off your car engine. If you do that your camera shuts off and you'll have no footage! ROVE sells a kit that allows you to hook the camera up directly to your car battery, but I worry that will drain my battery; might be better for owners of electric vehicles. The other major flaw with this camera is that it only records the forward-facing direction; if someone rear-ends you, you won't have any footage of it (you'll need to buy a whole second camera for that). Finally, the built-in speedometer seems to be biased 1 or 2 mph too fast, imho. That's going to make you look bad if you try to use the videos in court - it makes you look like you were driving faster than you were! There ought to be a setting to tune this up or down 1-3 mph.     • Nice basic dashcam - no need to use your phone.
Here are my positives. Regular micro cards work just fine. I did have to format the card in the camera, but then it worked without complaint. It has a 4 foot cable which is perfect to fit into my power adapter. I do like the suction cup holder so that I can remove the camera easily. While it has a phone app, you don’t need to use it or login to any account. The Menu is easy to change and understand. I changed my resolution to 4K, but then I also have to change my compression to H.265. Note – you can use VLC to watch those videos. Manual – they have a real manual which is color illustrated. Price is just $85.00 Negatives The default resolution is 2K. I changed that to 4K. You can’t use H.264 on the 4K files. You have to use H.265 If you look at online reviews, you will see that the day time license plate resolution is ok, but the night time resolution is terrible. Depending on your driving habits, this may be a deal killer. This is also a one camera dashcam. If you are looking for a two camera setup, this is not it. ... show more

I purchased a new car and wanted to upgrade the simple cheap dash cam that I had used on my old car. After researching online and reading reviews, I settled on Rove R2-4K Pro because I just wanted a camera that provided a built in GPS as well as simple setup and use. I like that I have a choice of how I could mount the camera and that all needed to use the camera was included. I did have to provide my own memory card which was not a problem for me. The menu is easy to use and intuitive. The video resolution is excellent and works great at night. Most impressive for me was customer service. I had an issue with the startup of my camera (totally my fault, not a Rove R2 issue) I contacted Rove customer support via text message and they literally responded within minutes. They promptly resolved my issue and I am able to use my camera with no problem. I am very impressed with the quality of the camera and with their customer support. I would highly recommend the Rove R2-4K Pro to anyone looking for a dash cam. ... show more
