Earlier this spring I built a gate from pressure treated 2x6's and cedar planks. The gate needed to span 13 feet across my driveway. I built two 6.5' frames with compression bracing at 45* and lap joints at each corner and for the compression brace. Glued everything together with Titebond III and secured everything with heavy duty deck screws. Even with cabinetry style construction of the gate still started to sag, that's the nature of wood and making a wide gate. I added these casters to keep the gate from dragging on the driveway. They installed quickly and I installed them "pre-loaded" about half the travel so the gate always has upward pressure on it. They removed the small amount of sag that had already set in and I hope will keep the gate from sagging any further. I can always add a tension cable if they continue to sag. ... show more

The wheels roll sufficiently well on grass and would be excellent on concrete or asphalt. The gate must be very sturdy; if not, you may need to place a wheel on each side of the gate. The spring support allows easier travel across uneven surfaces.

The product does not come with instructions. It wasn't clear to me whether I needed to attach the bracket on the right as I did with the wheel slightly compressed to hold the gate up once I removed blocking placed under the gate or whether I should have mounted it level with the bracket on the left and hope that the wheel would hold the gate level rather than compressing to allow the gate to sag again. While the wheels and brackets appear sturdy on the gate on the left, I am fearful that the bracket and wheel on the right might already be bending under pressure and fail over time. In my situation, the gate on the left is the primary gate and opened frequently while the one on the right is opened only a couple of times a year. So I may be fortunate if I mounted the bracket and wheel incorrectly on this side. Again, it would have been nice to have instructions regarding mounting. ... show more

Must use a c clamp as instructions were very much lacking. Otherwise a 5 star. First one was a job but figured it out by clamping wheel to hold spring up while attaching to gate. Works great!
