    • Roku - Good streamer device, with some shortcomings for users outside USA
I have a Roku 3 that's still working fine in our lounge room, a Roku stick in one bedroom, and a Roku 4 in my study for use with with a 4K TV set.. The Roku 4 recently started repeatedly restarting, which seems to be a known issue with them, so I ordered this Roku Ultra LT to replace it, which turned out to be a bad choice because I didn't notice when ordering it that (unlike the Roku 3 and Roku 4) it does not have a USB port. I need USB capability for streaming for regularly playing video files from a USB stick. Furthermore I recently subscribed to Paramount+ and discovered that all of these Rokus do not support Paramount+ in Australia. (saying "not available in your region" or similar error message, which is incorrect because Paramount+ became available here a year or two ago). The Rokus also don't support BritBox (in Australia, at least). I also have several Amazon TV Fire Sticks: the original model, the older and the newest 4K model, and since last month the Fire TV Cube. To my delight these devices are localised to support Australian streaming services, including Paramount+ and BritBox. On top of that the Cube does have a USB port, and it's very fast too. From now on I'll be using the Cube for nearly everything (as well as a Foxtel Now box that's needed for the closed world of Foxtel streaming). ... show more

I have 5 Rokus total. This one replaced one that was so old, it no longer was supported by Roku. I love that this one works with my Apple ear bud pros. Love it! I will say that it does sometimes randomly disconnect from them but typically it's easy enough to reconnect. I can connect through the Roku app on my phone, but that eats up my phone battery. I love this will even connect to my JB Audio Bluetooth speaker. It is a feature my other Rokus do not offer. If you want to listen via Bluetooth, get this Roku. It is worth the money. ... show more

This is my 5th Roku - on our 5th TV. Love the ease of installing and only limited need th re-enter credentials, was happily surprised on that. I was a bit put off to see that I needed the most expensive Roku in order to make a wired ethernet connection, but finally made the plunge to access marquee.tv offerings. The unit worked out of the box with no hassles, although it took a while to figure out how to add marquee. Browsing is difficult unless you know what you are looking for, so you have to use Search. Yet search requires the exact start of the title; I wanted "Tales of Hoffman" but could only find it when I used the French title. I'm not too happy with the volume and mute buttons on the side, as it is too easy to trip them accidentally. Also the Roku seems obsessed with minimizing the number of controls, some of which have completely different and unrelated functions depending on what mode the Roku is in. I'm a bit frustrated that so little of the Marquee programming has captions, but this is really a problem with Marquee than with Roku. ... show more

We thought we needed a new Roku box as our pause wouldn’t work when using direct tv. It turns out the issues are with the direct tv stream not the box. We’re keeping this box and adding the old one to our tv in the family room.

Love the ability to directly connect ethernet to the device. Also this device has significantly more computing power than the much smaller Roku devices that are wifi only. The system is very responsive and so easy to configure the Roku remote to control my 60' non-smart Samsung TV. Can also plugin headphones directly to the remote, which I have used numerous times and works quite well. Roku is great in that it has very broad access to all the main apps, however we have had pretty negative experiences with the smaller wifi-only devices. My old Roke (really old) was beginning to have glitches occasionally so I decided to move it to another TV and get a new one for the family room. This one works perfectly and is much faster.
