    • Great Value for the Money, but needs a little work

I decided to buy this lap steel, even though I could easily build one that is as good or better but already have more than enough projects on my work bench I Bought this one mostly because it came with a padded gig bag which is very good and legs that screw into the back as a stand, which again, I am happy with the quality and because unlike the other cheap lap steel I saw on Amazon, the bridge came with saddles. When I received this lap-steel, I knew for the money, you can't beat it with a 2x4" with a pick-up and hardware which is basically what a lap steel is. Since I have alot of knowledge and experience modifying, repairing and building instruments, I knew everything necessary to make this baby sing like an over priced top of the line lap steel. I also knew what to expect before buying a cheap instrument. The machines are almost always a problem on cheap guitars and the pots, nut and bridge saddles are garbage but I was pleasantly pleased with the over all quality and love the color and the sound is world class because I have great amps and a great rig. I can wait on the mods because because the guitar sounds so good which is why I have no plans to change the pick-up The machines were loose, so I tightened up the screws and used a plier to bend the housing to the post so it is nice and tight and holds tune. I raised the pickup, and tuned it with my tuner on mic setting since the clip is not wide enough to attach to the neck. Long and short, this lap steel sounds as good or better than the $2000.00 or more lap steels I have heard. I am happy that I spent the extra money on a Shubb solid stainless steel tone bar which makes a difference, even with the heavy duty brass finger slide I was using. ... show more

    • Does What I Wanted it to Do

I got this lap guitar as part of a set with an Ebow, a delay/reverb unit, and a looper in order to play a synthesizer drone sound. This unit works for what I want it to do. The guitar feels sturdy, all the controls work and add to fine tuning the sound (volume control and a bass/treble tone control). The metallic blue color makes the guitar look good. For 99 bucks, I feel I got a bargain, and it even included a case and legs that set up it to sit in front of (and the legs even store in the case in a separate compartment). The case even has a free compartment where I am storing two thick and long cables. The case feels sturdy and not cheap. It feels like it will protect the guitar very well during transport. I am playing the guitar unconventionally, more as a drone instrument. It is kind of like an electronic Tamboura or Hurdy Gurdy, but with a lot of rich textures and sounds. This is mainly due to the Ebow which magnetically vibrates the strings in a very long sustain (I can use my left hand to change the texture of the sustained note by gently touching in for a moment in a few ways or sliding it along the string). I can even modulate the vibration by dialing the tuning pins and through this to find the desired tightness for optimal Ebow expression (as a drone instrument). The reverb unit, of course, adds to the richness of the sound and the looper allows harmonics to form (the Ebow can only play one string at a time). All in all, a good set of tools to work with. I do feel that the lap guitar holds its place in the set and has no noticeable weakness performing with the Ebow as an effective drone instrument. I give it 5 stars because it does what I want it to do and looks like a serious instrument. FYI Guitar does not have a resonance chamber, it is only electronic. It can sound without an amp, but is very low volume then (and then lacks the richness a good resonance chamber gives). ... show more

    • Can't beat it for the money!

I was looking for a beginner lap steel guitar to learn on. This is not the highest quality of course, but it really is an excellent value. The strings it comes with need to be replaced with higher gauge quality strings immediately. The pickup works well, the carrying case and legs are sturdy enough, and it has been a great entry-level lap steel for sure. The tuning gears are net great - it's not easy to get it tuned accurately, but once you do, it stays in tune pretty well. I may look to replace those too. This is a product in which you really do get more than you pay for though. Amazingly affordable, and I've really enjoyed having it. I am an experienced guitar player and for me, this was well worth what I paid for it to have something inexpensive to learn a new style with. Definitely recommend it as long as you're willing to deal with the less-than-optimal tuning gears. ... show more

This was $149 in '22 and a very good value. This is my first lap steel and I just wanted to get my feet wet without a big commitment. This Rogue is perfect. It keeps a tuning well. The legs are great. You can angle them a hair toward you. It comes with a case which makes it a nice package. If you can play some guitar, you should be able to make this sound like a record after a couple weeks. My only thought is it could benefit from hotter pickups--something with a little longer sustain.     • Great entry level lapsteel

This is definitely worth $110. I've been playing guitar for 30 years and always loved the sound of a lap steel. This is a perfect entry level instrument. And it comes with legs! I did pop a string trying to tune it. Not sure what gauge strings it comes with. I went to my local music shop and told them I'd like to play in open g and c6 and they gave me a set for each tuning. Worked great. Don't forget to order a tone bar if you buy this. ... show more
