  • Not quite a flying car, but solid Buck Rogers' level of joy
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. Summary: I loved it once I learned the complex app features. Clean the juice box- sized debris container daily. Free the roller brush daily from tangled hair. *************** Low expectations I purchased this vacuum because I'm recovering from a surgery, and I can't vacuum or mop for 6 weeks. I have 4 cats, and am the primary caregiver to two people with medical conditions. My expectations are merely to keep chaos from over-running my perimeter for a short period of time. This probably won't replace my beloved Miele vacuum cleaner. Charging Find a place where your vacuum can nap and recharge its battery. This place needs to have clearance on each side. If the vacuum gets lost returning to its charger, give the charging area more space. The unit will return to the charger after each assignment. There is a home button on the unit as well. My map wasn't made well on the first few attempts, so the robot had a hard time returning to its charger when I pressed the home button. Take time to prep The vacuum needs to be fully charged before it can show you its full potential. While it is charging, take a good look around and move cords, cat toys, and people with unsteady gait out of the way. Identify low sloped furniture like pole lamps or sloped legs of standing mirrors. They need to be moved or blocked with cardboard before the vacuum maps your house for the first time, or it will try to "climb" over the lamp's base and produce a bad map. I used the phone app to block out a zone around problem furniture after the map was made. Mirrors Full length mirrored closet doors were another surprise to my bot. It thought the room extended into the mirror and produced a skewed map. This created problems later when I tried to divide the house into sections. When I have time, I plan to re-map the house and cover the lower parts of the mirrored doors with cardboard. Download the app according to the instructions in the box. The Smart Life app: clunky The app is crucial to the vacuum's operation. I did not find a manual for all of the app's features with the vacuum's packaging. A quick web search will get you pointed in the right direction. Be patient and keep trying different features of the app. It is worth the time. While it isn't a flying car, this vacuum is George Jetson/Buck Rogers level joy. You can add multiple robots to a single account. You must use the share feature to add other users to your app. Prep, prep, prep Open the doors of the rooms you want the vacuum to clean. Use the app to launch the vacuum and let it map your house. This will take a little time. Mine got stuck under the couch and ran into some clutter a few times before I figured out how to block off trouble areas with cardboard and storage container lids. Each time there was trouble, I deleted the partial map it had made, and started over. Label everything on your map Once the map is complete, you should label each room. Use Map Edit, Map Custom Editing, Name. Double tap the room in your map, type your label, save. Because the bot can mop as well as vacuum, I wanted to make sure I could isolate the places that needed mopping from the carpet places. Block out trouble The Map Edit menu let's you block off areas that the robot should not travel. There is a virtual wall feature or an adjustable square to deploy the blocking feature. I had to block out an area around an adjustable bed because the vacuum kept unplugging the cords under the bed. I also blocked off frequent sticking points where the robot got itself stuck under rolling chairs and near stand up lamps. Map editing also provides a way to merge and divide spaces. Schedule Once you have labeled your map, you can schedule cleaning. The clock is 24 hrs. In order to clean just one section, go to schedule, add, and select cleaning position. Toggle cleaning area selection off and your multi colored map will darken. Select the room you want and back out to the save menu. I forgot to save my work on my first attempts. The repeat menu is where you can schedule certain days. Considering how loud the unit is, I scheduled it to clean rooms when pets and people most likely wouldn't be present. This is also where you select the mopping feature with water level. I wish the schedule menu had a way to name each cleaning. While I am figuring out how to incorporate this gadget into my life, I panic when I hear it holler "start scheduled cleaning", not exactly sure which room mined with cat toys the vacuum is heading. Mopping The robot did a decent job of mopping kitchen tile. I decided to remove an area rug instead of trusting the app feature that lets you block a zone from being mopped, but allows vacuuming there. Remote Control Mode: The vacuum can be directed forwards/backwards/turns remotely with your phone. I used this mode to "precision clean" areas I had blocked off earlier. Vacuuming quality I was surprised how well the robot vacuumed carpet as well as hard floors. It cleared a substantial amount of cat litter from tile and area rugs. It didn't get to the suction level on carpet that my Miele can, but it got pet hair and surface debris. The level of suction can be selected in the app. I suspect suction quality is also affected by how clean the roller brush is kept. Maintenance The debris collection container is small, so I empty it after every cleaning. It came with a small brush to clean the debris box. A little paint brush with a longer handle does a better job. The roller cover on the underside of the vacuum has an easy release mechanism, so getting twisted hair off the bar is simple. Noise/unintended targets My pets were not stressed by the vacuum, but they are also comfortable with my Miele and are the kind who use the copy machine when I am not looking. I found the vacuum to be too loud to use while watching tv, but not as loud as my Miele. One of our cats tried to play soccer with the vacuum. Unfortunately, the vacuum sucked up the "soccer ball" /pom pom into the roller brush and the app sent my phone a malfunction alert. My 85 year old dad is so impressed with his robot vacuum, he recommended it to his friends. ... show more

  • A Necessity For Everyday Cleaning
Color: Black
I bought this vacuum as a Christmas present for my mom, she’s been wanting one for a while, but was too afraid of spending money on something she might ultimately regret. I did my research and this user friendly robot was perfect for everyday cleanings. We live in a desert, so naturally a lot of dust gets in the house, we also have a pet that sheds so much fur. We used to clean almost everyday with a broom and dustpan, but with this robot we only need to mop once in a while. We make sure to remove any cables on the floor when it’s cleaning and spot clean areas the robot wasn’t able to pick up. The mopping capability isn’t the best, but I’m surprised this robot can do both at such a low price! I find that Y shaped mopping with high water adjustment works best. The vacuum capability is great for dust and dog fur. We’re starting to get used to the shiny floors! I will say that this robot is a bit bigger than most. The mapping technology is pretty good too, we are able to select how much it vacuums and the water adjustment, as well at the shape and room. 100% worth the money. ... show more

  • Best Floor Cleaner
Color: Black
I purchased this Robot Vacuum as a Christmas gift for my grandson and he can’t stop talking about how great it is! He says it cleans his floors so well, is quiet and was very easy to set up! It can mop floors too! The Robot Vacuum quickly learns the layout of your home and then goes to work thoroughly cleaning the floors! He says he’s thinking about a name for it though I suggested Bruce or Buster! We’ll see! I plan on purchasing one for myself too because it is so efficient. This vacuum has got him in the mood to tidy up around his apartment which makes me smile! ... show more

  • Not worth it!
Color: Black
I purchased this in October. It works fairly well in vacuuming. Not great for mopping. Battery life, it can vacuum 1/2 the house (1400 sqft) before needing to charge. With zero changes or modifications to update the unit or the app since original set up, it will not clean a single room. It can’t find the dock. It just goes in circles in small spaces of a large open room. I have included photos to show what it used to do and what it does now. This is all using the ‘selected room’ clean setting. It does have a pin-n-go setting, which I never use because I don’t want it to clean that way. It used to clean in linear fashion with no issue. Not as much suction power as my stick vacuum, but enough to maintain during the week if I vacuum on the weekend. Now it goes in circles and runs itself out of battery before getting even half a room and doesn’t get most of the room at all. Then it can’t find the dock to recharge. I have re-booted it, I have factory re-set it and neither have fixed this problem. Calling the support number, there is no one available to speak to you. Sending an email does not get a reply. Very disappointed. ... show more
