Description

ROBERTS Cut and Jam Carpet Knife for cutting and tucking carpet is a favorite tool of carpet installers. It is uniquely designed to serve a double function: To cut carpet with one end and tuck carpet into gullies with the other end. Designed to easily open to change the blade, it includes safety thumb and blade guards. This rugged knife made of die cast aluminum, is lightweight, molded to fit in your hand, and includes a slip-resistant handle that assures a firm grip to cut with precision. The handle stores up to 10 additional heavy-duty slotted blades.

I used to cut the carpet on a recent remodel for a bathroom and it worked great. I then used to cut surplus carpet for my dogs doghouse. I used to struggle with scissors, but this does the work in 1/10 the time. I would recommend to wear cut resistant gloves as it could do some serious damage to your skin.     • Will cut pile carpet easily
Pro's 1. Metal construction and comes with 3 blades (Internal storage) 2. Handle design good but not great 3. Blades very sharp 4. Cutting carpet you must cut from the backing side 5. Worth the money for the two small jobs I had. Larger jobs buy something else! Con's 1. Blades stuck together and very easy to cut yourself prying them apart. 2. Blade stays in position but can not retract for safety. (Handle with great care) 3. Inserting blade into cutting position very futz y. Won't stay put as you balance handle trying to align two halves. (small magnet here would hold the blade in position. Hint hint!) 4. Handle construction is metal but could use aligning pins. Easy to assemble off center. See item 3 above. 5. Blades dull very fast. Two 10ft cuts dulled the first blade. Last few cuts took several passes to complete. ... show more

This tool is probably the reason I got so many hours during one of the conventions I helped set up. The boss was really impressed an apprentice like me had one so he kept me working. I do get nervous about storing the blades in the handle so I really crank on the D ring when I change a blade. Don’t want the Bloody Mary to claim another victim, hah. When we had our current carpet installed, the installer left a lot of unfinished edges with carpet strands sticking out all over the place.The carpet was nice but the appearance was ruined by the scraggly edges. It was too tough to clean the edges up with scissors because not only were they not really sharp enough, but they couldn't always get as close to the wall edges as I needed. So, I bought this tool, and it was just perfect! The blade is sharp enough to cut quickly and easily through the strands, but it is made in a way that also makes it easy to use safely. It is not flimsy at all and handles easily. However, I found the blade to not be as sharp as advertised. I was more worried I would cut myself because of the dull blade rather than if it were sharp. The handle holds the blades nicely so there is no chance of a blade coming out while using. The jam tool side worked well for tucking the carpet in the corners but the stair tool by Roberts is much better at tucking the carpet along the walls. ... show more
