  • Easy install that blends well
So far so good. Install was easy, swap some brackets and good to go. I've not driven around to test the navigation yet, bit it looks slick. There could be a little more detail in the installation instructions. But again not too bad. Impressive screen size, colors and details. Massive upgrade from stock. One nitpick, the AC controls do not sit flush. They ended up slightly recessed. Not enough to make want to remove. It might have been my installing, but I felt that it would press any further in. TIP: remove the shifter knob to remove that piece of the center console. Pull down the collar between the knob and leather boot. Than unscrew the knob. Everything slides off making things much easier. TIP 2: if you don't know, there is a release for the shift lever right in front of the lever. Push that down and you can move the shifter out of the way with the car off. ... show more

  • The product is OK.
System runs really slow , lags most of the time , harness was defective I believe. Sound was good for a short period of time and then you would hear alot of static and crackling and I had no sound coming out of left side of my car .

  • Has the potential and could be better!!!!
I bought this head unit for my Toyota Camry 2017 and here are my thoughts: Customer Service (4/5) - I had a lot of questions regarding installation of the head unit and the seller responded a little late but with satisfactory answers. The seller went out of the way to provide me with installation diagram which proved useful. Features (4/5) - This head unit is packed with features, more than you could ever use. The features available to you might change with the "car type" you select in the settings. I bought it for Toyota Camry 2017 but strangely enough, the option was missing for my car, so I selected Toyota Camry 2018. Everything seems to be working fine though. UI is simple and easy to navigate. UI design looks old. Each icon is displayed within its own box rather than floating type. Build Quality & Design - (3/5) It feels plasticity, light weight and is not designed well. The head unit does not make use of brackets that comes with the original stereo system, so safety could be of big concern. Does not come with retaining clips, so I had to move them from my old system to new one. As reviewed by other buyers, it does not sit well within the slot and there are gaps all over the place and if water spills and goes down through those holes while cleaning etc, then your system is probably done. Touch Screen (4/5) - The touch screen is one of the highlights of this head unit. It feels responsive and works as intended. The colors are vibrant. Brightness is good too. Installation (3/5) - It did not come with installation manual. If you are not willing to take some risk, ask a professional to install it. Took me sometime to figure it out and was able to install it within 2-3 hours. Connectivity (4/5)- Connects seamlessly to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G and Android Auto. GPS signals are somewhat weaker on the head unit I received. Depends upon your location as well. Audio (4/5) - Audio quality is good, better than OEM head unit. The speakers make a weird constant static noise which is really annoying, unbearable at times. Driving, listing to music suppresses the static noise but its still present. I did not notice this issue with the OEM speaker unit. Apps (3/5) - Its practically a full android 10 system, so you can install any app or games and use it like you would on your smartphone. "Ok Google" voice command crashes every time it launches. I updated the apps to the most revent version but it still crashes. Got app crash notifications multiple times. Software updates/Fixes (2/5) - I see no option to update software firmware on the head unit and the firmware files are missing from the manufacturer website as well. So in case you encounter any issues with the system software, you would have to ask the seller to provide you the latest software file and then install it via usb. No guarantee of future software updates. *This review might change depending upon if the seller is able to help me resolve my issues. ... show more

  • It'll do (most of) what you want, but not as well as you'd expect at this price.
I just bought this thing. Let me break it down for you. \\\\\ INSTALLATION \\\\\ I've never done a headunit replacement on a car before. To guide me through it, I found a video on YouTube of someone else doing it and I just followed along. This was necessary because the Roadanvi DOESN'T COME WITH ANY INSTRUCTIONS. Instead, it comes with an index card basically just showing some before/after photos. Things I learned: • You need a ratchet set with an extension piece. • If you drop a screw into the abyss of the interior of your car, you will have to remove more of your console to find it again (I bought a flexible goose arm magnetic tool from Lowe's to retrieve mine). • You have to remove the A/C module from the old headunit and mount it on the new one. • The metal brackets on the back of the old headunit have to be moved to the new one, but the screws won't fit into the new one so you can either drill a hole into it or leave them out and hope the headunit doesn't fly out if you get into an accident. • You can run the included external microphone through the interior of your console and under the steering wheel to mount it somewhere where it will better capture your voice for calls, etc. • Roadanvi does not provide instructions or documentation for any of this. \\\\\ INITIAL IMPRESSIONS / SOFTWARE \\\\\ • Launcher / Home screen: Powering it on, you get the ugliest home screen ever. It cannot be customized — the apps that are on that first page are stuck there. The music app (which you won't use, by the way, because normal people use Spotify or similar) prominently features a photo of a man who looks high as a kite wearing headphones. Whoever that dude is, I hope he's getting a kickback each time I'm forced to look at his ugly mug. It's the first thing you see every time you turn on your car. [PRO-TIP: Apparently there's a way to download a new launcher / home screen from Google Play, but I haven't figured out how yet...] • Virtual assistant: But worse is this absolutely HORRIBLE virtual assistant from some unknown service called Topper. You can activate it by saying, "Hey Top," but you won't need to, because it's ALWAYS ON THE SCREEN. A floating animation of a robot that DOES NOT GO AWAY. It's a constant overlay, regardless of the app you are running. Think of the imfamous "Clippy" from the Microsoft Word days. Every time your car turns on, its creepy voice literally says, "Hello, master." Whose idea was this? Even if I were to use it, how is it processing my voice? What else is it listening to? Everything you say is probably being recorded and sent to some sketchy company in China. [PRO-TIP: Delete Topper in Settings > Apps > All apps] • Apple CarPlay/Android Auto: There are a few apps preinstalled, including one called AutoLink. This is a third-party app that is probably violating some IP and other licenses to get you want you're really wanting: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The app normally requires a registration code/license key, but the fine folks at Roadanvi have already entered/cracked it for you by the time you open it up. The unit I ordered included support for wireless CarPlay. When I opened the AutoLink, I pulled up the CarPlay settings on my iPhone and found a mystery "BTXXXX" device in range that I connected to, which got it up and running very quickly. What sucks about this is that about an eighth of an inch is cut off on the left side of the display because the tablet has a bezel that cuts off the edge of the screen. This means that, in CarPlay, for example, you can't see the lowest bar on your signal strength unless you are sitting in the passenger seat. Corners are cut. Literally. Also, the CarPay interface is HUGE. Like something is wrong with the resolution. Why is the user interface so big? I'm doing some research to see if there's any way I can increase the resolution to better fit everything on the screen, because as of right now, it looks ridiculous. • Integration with vehicle: The software that's installed on the Roadanvi does a good job of being configured to work with your vehicle out of the box. Upon starting my car, it immediately worked with my steering wheel controls to skip tracks and adjust volume. This was cool, and is absolutely better than what came with my vehicle. Changing the A/C fan strength gives you a visual overlay (though it unnecessarily occupies the whole screen). Putting the car in reverse activates the backup camera with guidelines that move as you move the steering wheel — although, in my vehicle, the OEM/factory camera is not yet working with the system. I'm researching this (it appears others also had that issue) and I just contacted support via the Roadanvi website, but have not yet heard a reply. \\\\\ HARDWARE \\\\\ • Physical appearance: The best part about this thing is that it matches the look of your vehicle. If you didn't know any better, you'd say this was OEM. It looks very good and I did not have any issues with parts not lining up. Just make sure they are clicked into place entirely. That said, the tablet screen is slightly larger than what the console was designed to accommodate, meaning that it partially covers the hazard lights button. It's still accessible, and still looks good, but it's probably the biggest giveaway that it's aftermarket. • Android tablet: I'm just going to say it, the tablet is a piece of junk. It's not made by Roadanvi, it's a generic tablet design used by cheap brands like Junsun, Hikity, DoubleDin, Binize, etc. You can literally purchase the headunit (FF_866X) by itself on Amazon for $100-120. As a car headunit, it's probably fine, but for $500, I expected better. The animations are a little sluggish at times, loading CarPlay took about 10 seconds at launch. The screen quality is okay, though not as bright as I'd like it to be. But the most annoying issue with the hardware, as I described in the CarPlay section above, is that the bezel cuts of the leftmost edge of the screen, so you lose about an eighth of an inch of the display, causing some content to get cut off. • Wires/connectors: In the box, it comes with a wide variety of attachments for various features, including a Wi-Fi antenna, a SIM card tray, and a lot of wires for attaching to the back of the unit to interface with your car's controls. Unfortunately, NONE OF THEM ARE LABELED, and you have no way of knowing what they do without guessing and tinkering with the unit once it's been connected. Thankfully, some of the videos on YouTube gave me some idea based on other folks' documented trial and error. \\\\\ SUMMARY \\\\\ This thing is a piece of junk and is very, very overpriced. The only reason I would recommend this is because it does a good job of blending in with the existing dashboard/console and may give the impression of being OEM. While the tablet comes with software that has been pre-configured to work with your car, the argument could be made that not much of it is wanted or even needed. They could have just put the AutoLink app on here for CarPlay/Android Auto and that would have been sufficient, because realistically that's all you're going to use this for. Pros: • Matches the look of your dashboard. • Plug 'n play with existing connections. • Automatically interfaces with your car's features. • Easy way to get Apple CarPay or Android Auto. Cons: • Overpriced. • Launcher/Home Screen is ugly and horrible. • "Hey Top" floating robot is annoying and pointless. • Lots of bloatware apps. • Tablet bezel covers part of the screen, obscuring some content. • No instructions. Good luck. \\\\\\ BOTTOM LINE \\\\\\ If you want Apple CarPlay/Android Auto in your old(er) car, and if you want it to look halfway decent on your dash, this is a good, easy way to do it. But the truth is, it's overpriced, pretty confusing to use the software, and its annoying because it feels like a cheap implementation of something you just paid $500 for. —— UPDATE (1 year later): I’m still using it. Here’s what I would suggest. Find yourself someone who knows Android and have them help you get the Hey Top software off of the tablet. You’ll also want them to get the tablet connected to Wi-Fi so they can install a different launcher (I went with one called Vivid), which will allow you to find something more aesthetically pleasing. It even allowed me to auto launch the AutoLink app (which is what provides you with CarPlay or Android auto). So here’s my final thoughts. After making some tweaks to the configuration (it helps that I’m a nerd), I’ve made it so that the whole thing is… fine. It’s fine. The resolution of the CarPlay interface is still too small, but I can’t figure out how to change or fix it without the risk of screwing up the entire tablet. So I’m just dealing with it. It’s honestly better than what I had before, but I’m just picky. If you’re not as picky as I am, it’ll probably suit you fine. Hope this helps. ... show more
