The classic machine-made Riesling and zinfandel glass of the established glass collection vinum should be part of the basic equipment of every sophisticated wine lover. The shape of the glass best supports the characteristic bouquet of fruity Red wines or floral white wines – aroma and taste are dominated by fermented grape juice and the flavour of yeast. Vinum glasses have proved to consumers and restaurateurs that the pleasure of consuming wine starts with the glass. All Riedel glasses are dishwasher safe. The Vinum collection from renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel gives serious wine drinkers an extensive choice of moderately priced crystal, each glass designed especially to enhance a particular wine. Be sure to check the height is compatible with your cupboard space. While it's true that you can get decent glasses for cheaper, they can't approach the experience of drinking a great Bordeaux inspired wine out of a glass that's designed specifically to enhance the experience is something that other offerings just can't match. I have Riedel Sommelier glasses, which are hand blown lead crystal but they're very expensive and very fragile so I don't feel comfortable using them every day. These Vinum series Bordeaux glasses are a great everyday solution. Lead crystal, formed to enhance specific qualities in the wines I love the most but machine blown and more sturdy. And I'll tell you a little secret: unless you're dealing with a hardcore wine snob, most people will be just as blown away by these as they are by the much more expensive Sommelier versions. Personally, I prefer not to drink wine with people who use words like "precocious" to describe wine, I'd much rather enjoy wine with people who can just appreciate it for what it is and what it does in their mouth. These glasses are perfect for 99% of your wine drinking (of you're drinking big reds) and I'm pretty sure most people will get more enjoyment out of them than their more expensive cousins. These are beautiful and a joy to sip from, also merely to hold in the hand. They seem to have the perfect shape for a variety of wines and I've happily had champagne from them as well. These glasses are made for white wine. They are specifically made for Sauvignon Blanc. If you are a white wine drinker, you will love these glasses. Wow, just wow! For years I had the Robert Mondavi Cabernet glasses by Waterford Crystal and didn't think there was any way in the word those could be topped. Well, I ended up breaking both of them (sadly!) and happened upon these majestic beauties. Five words for that: I should've broken the other ones sooner! There is a method to handling crystal glasses and most of you already know all of that. Suffice it to say that if you don't torque on the stem or base whilst washing and use two towels to dry, you should be golden. I bought four of these glasses weeks ago and I am still using the first glass I took out of the box and I drink every night, so there. (knocks on wood!) . EDIT: February 5, 2022. I came back to this review because I'm buying a pair for a friend. These beauties are still holding up wonderfully without any issues. They are wine royalty in every sense of the word! ... show more

What do you want, they're Riedel! I've been drinking from Riedel glasses for years. I clumsily tipped one over and to the floor. Yes the stem shattered, but I was able to fill the bowl and finish my martini. Now I have two more. These are a shot larger than the one I broke. All the better.

My wife and I have always had inexpensive and somewhat random wine glasses so When it was time to get a complete set I decided to go big and got 16 Cab/Merlot Ridel glasses. They were delivered in well protected boxes with none broken. The stickers were easy to remove and left no sticky film on the glass. There is clearly a difference with these crystal glasses, almost weightless and the thin glass is super smooth on the lips so you can really experience the wine you are drinking. The glass does feel breakable but so far I haven't broken any and washed them all. The real test will be when we host our next wine party (I'll update this review if the glasses let me down). My only complaint is the price. I feel like I spent twice the price for these compared to similar Cab/Merlot glasses. Not saying it was a bad choice but not sure the value of these glasses is really there ... show more
