  • After some frustration and a bit of YouTube, this is the console of your dreams!
Okay, so this is for sure the best emulator machine around. It does run your Dreamcast and N64 roms almost as good as the original consoles, and the controllers/buttons feel very good in your hands If you're like me and wanted this for PSX, N64, and Dreamcast, then I suggest you YouTube his to add games to retropi. Either via flash drive (fastest) or Wi-Fi. MAKE SURE YOU UNZIP YOUR ROMS, as retropi emulators don't seem to read zip files. The process is very easy. A fair bit of warning: this machine can be confusing in the menus. It is possible to erase many of your controller, sound, or system settings, and it can be extremely frustrating to restore them. YouTube and Reddit are your friends. The customer support is lacking (my emails went to spam, and it took leaving a bad Amazon review to get them to respond... By that time I had fixed all my issues), as is the single page instruction manual. Bottom line: if you are looking for the console of your dreams, this is probably it. Just be willing to put in a little work to familiarize yourself with the way retropi works and to customize your new machine. Definitely worth the price tag. ... show more

  • This Made a Grown 50+ Year-Old Cry Tears of Joy...
This retro unit is worth every dollar: SO many retro games (coin-op & console) starting from the 70's that I had so many happy flashbacks. In addition, the unit is quick & easy to setup and navigation is a breeze (even like the lobby music!). I took a chance on this based on the stellar reviews and so glad I did! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ... show more

  • The Real Deal! Exactly As Described!
First off, let me just say that the customer service may be the best I have ever experienced. I want to stress - if you have an issue, you need to email the company. Although I was having such a great time playing so many games, including reliving ones from my childhood, there were also about 1/8 of ones which wouldn’t play, as in they wouldn’t even load. And you know how that makes you feel when you paid for something that you expect to work correctly. But guess what, it was explained to me how to switch between emulators and Booya, they ALL work. But being handicapped with a serious disease that calls for a need for healthy escape now and then, this setup is a new precious commodity for me, with sooo many games to choose from (all of which work now 😉) and controllers that are quality and smooth. Now some of the more demanding games, like Tekken 6 or N64’s Mario Kart, the sound is rough and it can be a bit choppy to start but it improves as you play. Not sure why it works like that, but it does. And both of those games i have had a great time playing on here. Those aren’t complaints because I’ve learned it works itself out, it’s just a disclaimer to be patient. Like I just realized yesterday by pressing select in the menu screen i can choose to isolate titles by letter instead of scrolling for minutes through alllll of them until I come to the one I want. The Raspberry Pi is not a standard gaming console, it is a mini computer, and you can’t expect to know everything about it right out the gate. Patience and taking the time to learn this system is key. I guess things can happen, but I would not be surprised if most of the negative reviews that I read were because those people didn’t even bother to contact customer support and know all of the inner working instructions. I still don’t know a whole heck of a lot, but on the instructions included it says very clearly - if you need any help or have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out. And as is reflected in these positive reviews over and over, they care to help. Customer service told me : “I’m just happy to share my passion with others and preserve retro-gaming”. So clearly they’re fans first and genuinely want it to be as enjoyable an experience for you as it is them. This is a company you want to support for your gaming. You can’t go wrong here. Just listen to the instructions 😉 Thanks again for such an awesome product, guys! ... show more

  • Powerful and capable, but requires some setup
Firstly let me say, I love this little thing, and if you're an emulation fan, it's right up your alley. If you're just a retro game fan with limited computer skills, do your research first! To briefly summarize my whole review before I get into the weeds with it: Controller and game optimization require a lot of settings tweaks and you will have to buy extra controllers, but there are a TON of games, and for every 1 game you have to mess with, there are 10 that load and work fine. A blast from the past that can keep you, and at least 3 others, busy for many many hours. That all being said, it very much requires some technical know how and settings tweaks to really have it running smooth. The customer support seems to be on point for this, but I prefer to learn by doing and planned on getting under the hood of this console to start with. Some of the n64 games and "newer" retro games require tweaking system settings to prevent stuttering, also some of the games act a little weird on launch/don't launch at all. Once again, if you're into emulation, you understand there's a lot going with that, and you may want to get into the desktop mode and change a few ROMs around/add new ones to really optimize this thing. Or even change out the emulator consoles and such if you know what you're doing. Controllers can be frustrating to set up, and not all controllers are made equal for this thing as some older games have a wonky button setup, that doesn't seem to be editable for every console. You can edit overall inputs, but that doesn't translate when you consider some of these games ran on an arcade machine with one stick and a few general buttons, and some ran on N64 or playstation. Loading new roms onto this is very easy, drag and drop in desktop mode from a USB stick into the appropriate folder and you'll see it next time you're browsing the catalog. This thing has a microSD for storage, so if you know how setting a memory card up with the OS works, you could load a separate one full of the games you may feel are missing, or even the ones that it is currently light on because of memory concerns. (Playstation, PSP, etc.) I have noticed, every few weeks mine will act up launching games and require a restart or two to get it back on track. Not sure the exact cause for this, but performance has not changed otherwise. There's a ton to love about this thing, but at the end of the day it is one of those labor of love scenarios and does require more footwork than simply plug and play to get full use from it. ... show more
