Got this case all assembled, excitedly turned it on to test it out and.... my Logitech F710 wireless controllers that used to work across the house now only work within 2-3 ft of the Pi. There's a warning in the box that says "USB 3.0 might interfere with 2.4ghz wifi." Well, I wasn't using USB 3.0 for anything. The dongle was plugged into the Front usb 2.0 slot. The instructions also label this as "USB 1.0." Regardless, something about their board is blocking 2.4ghz signals, and they've blamed it on the concept of USB 3.0. Total garbage excuse. I've ordered a couple of 8bitdo Bluetooth controllers, so hopefully that will semi-solve the problem. Not happy with my purchase, considering it just cost me an extra $80 in controllers. *****UPDATE***** Did a bunch of testing today and with the top of the case totally removed everything works fine. With the top case on and the SSD USB 3.0 cable plugged in neither Bluetooth or 2.4ghz wireless work. If I unplug the SSD USB 3.0 cable Bluetooth works just fine. Something is VERY broken about that SSD connection board. Also the included thermal foam doesn’t work at all. Absolutely need to upgrade it with better stuff. The NESPi 4 case looks great, and I love the cartridge SSD holder. Good idea and nearly perfect execution. I ran into an issue when I tried using my trusty Logitech F710 Gamepad, though. This is my favorite wireless RetroPi controller and works beautifully when its receiver is plugged in straight to the Pi. I have used it for years with different cases and different RaspberryPis, and even used it successfully with the same Pi I attempted to use in the NESPi 4, when I tested it with a "Zebra" layered acrylic case. I am not sure if the issue with the NESPi 4 case is because of the small USB extension or because of some other radio interference the case is generating. Regardless, my range goes down to about two feet when I use it with the Pi in the NESPi 4 case, and with other cases where I can plug the controller's receiver straight into the Pi, my range is 10+ feet. I have considered plugging the receiver straight into the Pi, inside the NESPi 4 case, but this would mean losing one of the external USB ports (having a dead port, which is my OCD is against) and not being able to easily use the controller with other devices, since I would have to take the NESPi 4 apart to retrieve the receiver. For now I am using a wired controller, which adds to the retro of the thing, but hurts the user experience and practicality of it. ... show more

    • Well made case for retropi with SSD

The case is well made, solid and everything fits together well (Pi 4). I had Retropi running with an SSD in a basic case, which left the SSD drive "dangling", this case bundles everything up nicely and the SSD can be swapped out without having to take everything apart. The price is good if you consider you're getting an SSD (HD) controller included and power supply, etc. I did have a few issues, and hopefully this will help others get to it more quickly. I couldn't find a way to get support via the web site (no support email address or support form) which I recommend that they add to improve communication. I was however, able to contact support via the Amazon contact vendor process. But since this process masks email addresses and doesn't allow attachments, etc. contact was clumsy. (I have to give 5 stars to Shirley at GAMEROOM, she made outstanding efforts to contact/resolve the issues, in the end because of her the problems all got resolved). There was a card included with the product that gave an email address at foxmail for support, however, I didn't get any response from this address for days, not sure what's up with that. The biggest tech problem I had was that the drive controller was not working properly with the usb v3 ports on the Pi, it took 6+ minutes to load Retropi, whereas with an external controller it took ~40 seconds. So there was an obvious issue, I found that if I plugged the controller into the usb v2 port, it would load in ~50 seconds. Shirley (mentioned above) got retroflag to post a Firmware update on their website, so if you have this problem, go to the web site and click the NESPi4 image, scroll down to the SSD section and there is where I found the link to download the firmware update. The instructions are rough but basically you plug the NESPi4 HD controller into a usb port on your computer (mine is windows based), then run the exe included and select the firmware version, and click the button to flash the update. This made the load time ~35 seconds. There is an update to the command load text file, which I added but don't know if it made any difference. Another reviewer stated that the 2.4 ghz wireless didn't work after the case was assembled, I didn't notice a problem, but my wireless station is close. However, the instructions note that 2.4G WiFi might be affected, so they recommend using a 5G WiFi connection. Finally about the safe shutdown, it works, but what it does is initiate a shutdown/reboot, and when the system reboots about 3-5 seconds after it starts, it does the actual final turn off of power (i.e. pi is off and fan is off). So need to be a little patient for the shutdown. Overall the product is outstanding for the price, and the support tried it's absolute hardest to get me the info I needed, a big thanks! It is a do it yourself project so a little patience is needed, and since it's such a new product a firmware update is no biggie in my opinion. ... show more

Your SSD may require that you plug the SSD slot adapter directly into a windows PC USB 3.0 port without anything in it and run the Firmware from RetroFlag Website. Afterwards you may have to use the internal USB 2.0 port to boot from SSD. I verified no noticeable performance drop in RetroPie running a popular 512GB blissful image from USB 2.0 inside the case. My SSD was a Samsung 860 500GB. The case itself is stunning and it looks exactly the way you want it to look and feel. The power buttons on the front are perfect. They even click the way they should. Everything about it LOOKS great. Even the SSD cartridge feels premium. They include 2 Raspberry imprinted metal shims for the cpu and ram under the fan. The impression really helps to hold thermal paste. I then used the pads included on my GPU and USB controller. I'm overclocked to 2147HZ and my case felt cool to the touch running N64. The RetroFlag Safe shutdown Script is incompatible with RetroPie. It shuts down without saving Metadata. You can flip the switch to off inside the case and shutdown from the pause menu in RetroPie. ... show more
