  • Exactly what it says
This is perfect. Ideal for its intended use--just hold it around your pet's enclosure to see if the UV light is reaching whatever spot you're testing. I found out that the UV light just... wasn't. I moved the light, and within a day or two my bearded dragon was much more active and happier. When you hold the card up to UV light--or wherever you're testing--there's a purple sun on the left side of the card that slowly appears (~10 seconds or so to full appearance) if the UV levels are sufficient, like transitioning glasses lenses. The sun fades away slowly (a minute or two). The drawback is that if you're testing multiple spots in the enclosure, you'll need to wait for it to fade to test again. But to mitigate that, the package includes two cards. I can't speak to the longevity of the card, but it claims that each is reusable up to about 500 10-second exposures. They're cheap enough that even if it doesn't quite last that long, they're easily replaceable. I had no bias either way ordering this, but I will never set up an enclosure again without one. It's that useful. ... show more

  • Extrememly effective for relative measurements if used inteligently
I wasn't expecting much out of these cards, but they have turned out to be quite useful. There is no color "chart" per say as other customers point out, however, the purple color to the right of the color changing sun is a good indicator of what maximum exposure from full sun is like. When I tested a 100 watt Powersun HID light at 12 inches, which is considered max full sun exposure, the card turned almost full purple with 10 seconds of exposure. This car basically told me that I cant safely get the bulb close enough to provide enough heat without too much UV, so I backed off the bulb a few inches and added a heat lamp. The reptisun 10.0 UVB bulbs that are known to provide good results will turn the card about 2/3 the way to full purple, so I use this as a baseline for what is safe and effective. This led me to a failsafe procedure to get just about any bulb positioned right. -Hold the card at the basking spot a few inches above the surface where the reptiles back and head will be for exactly 10 seconds. -If the sun is less than halfway purple, bring the light closer -If the sun is almost full purple, back off the light. -If you can't get the temperature high enough within this range, you will need to use separate heat lamp in conjunction with your UV light. Note: This card appears to work through chemical reactions to UV exposure, so it will degrade over time in terms of response sensitivity. Periodically test it for 10 seconds in full sun at high noon to get a new baseline for relative measurement. Reptiles are better off with slightly less UV than full sun (50%-75%) due to the fact that the lights tend to be on longer than they would get direct overhead sun outdoors. ... show more

  • Seems to work
We have a few reptile tanks with UVB lights, always wondering if the lights are still good, we do replace the lights every 6 months, bought these cards cuz they say they will do 500 usages. Them, they seem to work. It said the lights were still good, however, we still did replace the lights at our normal 6-month interval. ... show more

  • Very handy
I love these! These give me the reassurance that my tortoise is getting uvb/uva from the bulbs I purchased. The coloring is very easy to read. They are ease to read. The cards are nice and sturdy and provides additional information on the back. Thank you!

  • Very happy with these REPTI ZOO cards
In August 2024, i got the repti zoo uva & uvb card to test my cars front windshield and drivers side window. i just installed an 80% window tint on the drivers side window. Card was very handy and gives me good confidence my driver side window is allowing almost zero uva/uvb thru. Front wind shield shows a little more rays coming thru but repti zoo card result is almost not visible when looking at results (which means almost no uva/uvb is getting to the repti card on dashboard. Most car side windows allow much more uva/uvb to transmit thru the glass as compared to front wind shields. ... show more

  • Ambiguous Results, Value for Price
This profuct you hold under the light and it turns a shade of purple. It's really hard to tell "ok" vs "change soon", but you can see CHANGE NOW easily. It's just subjective because it's colors the card changes, not values or anything quantifiable, which I would prefer. Good for the price.
