I bought this to replace an old garage door remote that had to be pressed in a certain pattern, with 3 fingers in a specific position as if doing a Vulcan mind-meld, while singing the Hokey Pokey song. It was ridiculous! I had a slightly difficult time with programming it because *I* kept missing a step. It's clearly stated, but it wasn't a logical step in my brain, so I missed it the first three or four times. Once I paid attention, it was easy to program. Now, the remote comes in with the car keys if my partner has to park in the complex' parking lot. **Safety tip: never leave your remote in your car when parked near your home. If someone breaks into your car, the perpetrator can use your registration to find your address and let themselves in. I suppose that can happen anywhere if your car is broken into. I ordered these because I was tired of having to swap the old garage door remote between vehicles all the time. Now I have one of these on my keys and so does the spouse. I was a little concerned about the buttons and it being in a pocket or purse constantly, I didn't even realize it had a built in slidable cover. Programming is a bit confusing for the remote it's self. The instructions tell you how to get it into programming mode, but even though I could get it to acknowledge the remote during programming, the instructions fail to tell you that once the amber light flashes and you hear the 2 clicks on the garage unit, you have to press a different button to close the programming mode on the remote. I figured it out after a couple of tries and watching the lights on the remote and garage unit. Wasn't overly difficult, just vague instructions. ... show more

I have old two old Sears Craftsman garage door openers. One is a 9 dip switch type from the late 80's or early 90's and the other from 1998 has a smart / learn button. The description on the Amazon site stated that the Universal keypad could control each type of opener from various suppliers including Sears Craftsman. So, I ordered it and received it within 2 days. The instructions are clear (That is why I gave Tech Support 5 stars) Using these instructions I quickly programed the keypad to work with the smart / learn button opener from 1998. I followed the instructions closely and could not get the dip switch style opener to work until I shifted my position to the front (or door side) of the opener. Once I moved my position the opener responded immediately to my dip switch programming! Impressive! I am very happy with the unit and it deserves 5 stars! ... show more

We have a very old Sears 1/3 H.P. Automatic Door Opener. This thing is ancient. We only have one working remote and we're getting a second car. I remembered when changing the battery of the old remote that I saw some dipswitches. After seeing videos on how people program a remote with dipswitches, I had confidence that this remote will probably work. The trick of programming this, if you have a working remote, is to just open that remote and copy the dipswitches of that remote. I didn't have to open the actual garage opener to find out about what the dipswitches are since the other remote already have that settings. After doing that and going through the steps of pressing the circle button, and then the actual button several times while near the garage opener, it found one that it liked and the door opens. I programmed both button so they can open the garage door. Other than a little delay, it works like a charm. ... show more
