Usually these seem to be more expensive in the 600$ range, but this overall is a great camera and has pretty substantial zoom, I was somewhat blown away. It even has color night vision. The only thing of note is it stutters when rotating on high quality but that can be fixed by increasing the bitrate in the settings. ... show more

    • Impressive PTZ camera
After unboxing the first thing I thought was “man this is one solid camera” the next thought was I hope I can mount this under my eve’s like my other cams? Thankfully the install was fine it is hanging from, underneath the eve”s. The camera setup quickly the NVR auto detected immediately. The PTZ features work great and the zoom is crazy good sometimes feels a little clunky with the app however. Mainly the auto focus so,etimes takes a second to get adjusted when zoomed in. The people tracking feature works great! And also tracks my dogs to keep an eye on them! No regrets ... show more

    • Too much ZOOM
I have MANY 823A cameras. They're NOT perfect - but they're a good value for what they are; PTZ, POE, IR Blasters for night vision, LED Blasters for security as well as an alarm with scheduling, 2-way audio, Auto/Pet/Human tracking (regardless of how good/bad it may be). I was looking to get a couple more but cannot - unavailable. So I got these. Two of them. Next generation, right?! Should be better right?! Welp,, I suppose they are in most ways WITH THE EXCEPTION of one very, very, very fundamental way. This next generaton camera USING NO ZOOM yields an image that's equivalent the 823A at 50% zoom. Essentially, the field of view at 0% zoom is too narrow. You can't see much under normal circumstances. Now,, if your intention is to mount this camera somewhere super far away - then that's probably okay, however, this does NOT work for monitoring the perimeter for the avarage home. You're simply zoomed in too much at 0% and can't see much of an area. Now, if you want to zoom in on a fleas butt - it's perfect for that - but I don't think that's what most people are looking for. These are expensive - I'd send them back if they still made the 823A. Not sure what I can do now. ** EDIT 12/14/2024: Currently working w/Scarlett at Reolink regarding somehow swapping out the S2 units for S1 units (with a FoV close to the original 823A's). I don't remember the S1 units being an option when I first placed the order back in October - but perhaps I missed it?? Regardless if it was my issue or not, if Reolink can help me out here, that would put them squarely at "6-stars".. ** EDIT 12/24/2024: Reolink had me return the S2 that was still returnable (due to the time frame) and gave me a $30 credit for the other S2 that was too old to return. This was likely "my bad". As I said, I don't remember the "S1" being an option when I ordered the S2 - but it very well may have been. In the end, the S2 FoV is too mag'd for my use, the FoV on the S1 is slightly more mag'd than the 823A, but usable. If the 823A was still available, I'd have opt'd for that instead. REOLINK customer service was VERY on top of this. VERY. Probably the BEST Customer Service I've ever seen. The polar opposite of Tesla. Thank you for your prompt attention REOLINK. ... show more

As a heads up, I own multiple Reolink 823A 16-X and 823A POE cameras, of which meet my needs. The Reolink RLC-823S2 camera's design is beautiful including the adjustable mounting bracket. The camera design is slightly diffrent than the 823-A 16X however, Pet, Human and Vehicle detection is virtually non-existent with the RLC-823S2. My sensitivity settings for motion detection were 47, and Smart Detection for People, Pets and Vehicles were set at 💯. I installed and ran the camera for 24 hours outdoors in 50° dry weather. In my specific lighting conditions at night, the color night vision is excellent with Infrared turned off. The camera led spot lights work very well however, regardless of day or night, the Reolink RLC-823S2 camera rarely tracks slow moving People, Animals or Vehicles at distances between 5-70ft. When the camera does decide to track objects, it will normally stop ✋️ and lose the slow moving subject matter or while tracking, will overshoot the object vertically and horizontally. Additionally, there is no function as advertised, to chose an object to focus on, lock onto it and quickly zoom into the object while maintaining the object in full view and focus. Also, there is no Frame Rate Option for "Gradual." Reolink Customer Care stated they would notify Reolink Engineers of my concerns. I returned the camera and purchased the RLC-823A 16X. ... show more

Really impressed with this camera. The clarity and optical zoom is really nice. PTZ is awesome and auto tracking works pretty well. The only thing I could nitpick is I wish the auto focus was a little faster.

Pros 1) POE works great. 2) build quality seems on point 3) lots of great features. 4) zoom is awesome. Cons 1) the core functionality of the main advertised features is very much lacking. A) sentry mode has no scheduling feature. It's either running 24/7 in sentry mode or not at all. Kiss those PTZ motors good bye. B) while in sentry mode, it cannot also do object tracking... So what's the point of sentry mode? C) object tracking has no object prioritization. It will track the original object, like a car, and will not disengage to track a new object, like a person. In my opinion, this is a gimmick and you still need additional fixed position cameras to have reliable coverage. Reolink, quit following the software trend of releasing bare minimum functionality to get to market. People don't want to buy a product and hope you one day release the software you originally promised. You cannot rely on product sales to justify investment into the software.
