  • If you want to fully utilize your F7N Dash Cam, you will want this product.
The F7N comes only with the cigarette lighter power cord, which works great if you only want the active camera while the car is turned on. The hardwire kit will enable the camera to record events when the car is off. It’s great to have if someone were to damage your car when you are in away from it, in a store, etc. Keep in mind, that you cannot simply modify the cigarette lighter plug and use that as a hardwire solution, as the camera runs on 5 volts - Not 12 volts. This hardwire kit steps that voltage down. This hardwire kit comes with everything that you need. There are three wires - One needs to be wired to a fuse socket that is always ‘on.’ The other goes to a socket that is only on when the car is on “acc” or running. The other wire is of course the negative. I want to point out that the supplied wires are plenty long. In fact, there may be more length than some cars require. In that case, you can easily cut them to length and use solder connectors to attach them to their appropriate connectors. The instruction manual takes you through the installation just fine. Customer service is also outstanding. ... show more

  • Why the wrong color and wrong label?
I just finished this installation and cannot believe that these folks building electronics can’t get the wire color and label to match the instructions. Red wire was labeled “acc” and needs to go to a switched spot on the fuse box. Yellow label was marked “B+”, whatever that means, maybe Battery Positive, and is supposed to go to a spot on the fusebox that is always on. Unfortunately, following the original installation (per instructions), the camera kept telling me to install the hard wire kit when trying to put the camera in park mode. I finally switched the red and yellow wire, red is not constant, and yellow is switched, and the camera now allowed me to enable park mode. It’s not very reassuring that the folks making these wiring kits may be the same ones assembling the cameras. I will review the camera after I have had time to immerse myself in the functionality. The little, tiny manual leaves much to the imagination. UPDATE Still not working properly after reversing wires, even though the camera accepted the settings as opposed to throwing an error, but not entering parking mode. Checking reviews on the camera itself, I found a review from dcmac, so credit to him and whoever he credits as well. This issue must generate a lot of calls. Definitely time to update the printed instructions. That’s the problem with price breaks for ordering 100,000 copies of the challenging instructions. Raising my overall rating to 4 stars. Superb customer service, really cool product, minus one star for really shoddy instructions. I added the instructions below in case this shows up ahead of dcmac’s review. 1. Connect wires as described above (Yellow = constant 12v, Red = switched 12v, Black = ground). 2. Turn on acc power (but do not start engine). 3. Press menu button and select "Parking". 4. While blue message box is shown on the F7N display, turn off acc power (this has to be timed well). You should see a new blue message box and the F7N unit will power off. 5. Turn acc power back on (but do not start engine). 6. Press menu button and select "Parking". 7. You will now see the menu options for Parking Mode and be able to configure it how you like. credit: Elizabeth B. • Great quality, bad directions
The quality of the adapters is amazing, the cable is a little short, and the directions are lacking. The fuse adapters have two slots but only come with one fuse. One slot is so that the vehicle power can pass through, while the other slot is for the camera passthrough. This means you have to have two fuses per adapter for it to function properly which is not included in the manual. Theain cable is shorter than I would like. By the time I ran the main, black cable from the top of the windshield down through the molding I ran out of line and so the power box couldn't be hidden. I ended up having to unrun the wire, then snake the camera end between the dash and the door just so the box would be hidden under the dash. I would suggest the manufacturer increase the length of the black main line by about 12 in to eliminate this issue as. ... show more
