  • Excellent Computer for Memory Intensive Applications - Relatively Lightweight & Quiet
The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Gaming Laptop is a total power workhorse that is obviously great for gaming, but also perfect for running power and memory-hungry video editing programs for work. Unlike a lot of other users who are looking at this laptop, I am not using it with the purpose of gaming but instead got it with the intention of using it for doing video live streams for work. The Razer is able to handle multiple programs and applications running simultaneously without any lag, and unlike the Alienware (which I also really love), weighs a lot less and is much easier to carry while on the road for work. The laptop runs silently, even when running multiple programs and apps, and doesn't heat up or lag at all, even with everything running at once. I've run a number of programs for our entertainment company along with Zoom, OBS, OSC for OBS, Streamdeck, and so forth, and the laptop is able to handle all of the load without a hitch. The 15.6" display is very bright and processes graphics without any lag - I like how it can be easily seen, even when in direct sunlight, and how smoothly video plays on it. Additionally, the laptop has Razer Central (Razer Synapse) already preinstalled and running so it examines your applications and sets priority so that your most speed-critical applications get first access to your bandwidth. This ensures everything runs rocket fast and can be customized to your needs. For those who love looks and function, the keyboard will likely fit both casual users' and gamers' needs. It's beautifully lit with customizable lighting functions, pushes down easily but not so much that you'd mistype, and can handle the punishment from aggressive and repetitive button mashing. For those who love the "clicky-clicky" feel of mechanical gaming keyboards, this one probably won't fulfill your tactile needs. The Razer's keyboard is much more similar to traditional keyboards and makes virtually no noise when pushing down with very little travel time. It works well if you need to word process for a long time, but the son noted that while he liked how responsive the keyboard is, he didn't like "the feel" of it as much as the Alienware laptop's keyboard. It's a preference thing, so you may want to test out the keyboard in person to see if it would work for your needs. With that in mind, Bluetooth and wired peripheral connectivity with this laptop are flawless and you can add on your own keyboard/mouse if needed. As for the lighting effects, everything can be controlled via Razer Central. With a few clicks, it's easy to set up brilliant lighting patterns on your keyboard - or turn them off entirely if you are feeling "no fun". As for the trackpad, it works very well and is responsive to both tap and click. The speakers on the Razer are pretty good for a laptop, although I usually wear headphones when using a portable computer. Headphones connect very well via Bluetooth, and if you want to use wired headphones, there is a standard 1/4" headphone port as well. Speaking of inputs, there are a decent number of inputs to the Blade 15 including three USB ports, a headphone port, two USB-C ports, as well as an HDMI port. For those who plan on using this computer for photo editing purposes, there is a built-in SD Card slot so you don't need to bring an adapter - I didn't think this was entirely necessary, but found I use it a lot more than I anticipated, especially since the husband started using the DSLR more recently. As for the built-in camera, it's functional, but definitely not as good as the HD cameras we've been using to live stream. It is better than many other laptops I've used but is not as good as the Apple Macbook cameras. I ended up connecting a GoPro to the Razer as a webcam and that worked great. Again, most people who buy gaming laptops likely don't need a super high definition webcam, but this is something to keep in mind if you plan on using the laptop as a work and play laptop as our family does. The battery life on the Razer is like most gaming laptops - not very good. Battery life really depends on a number of factors including whether or not you keep all the lights on and how hard you are running the laptop, and I've found it was just easier to keep the charging cable nearby. The battery life is not quite as long as the Alienware, but still good enough for my needs. While it's a heavy "brick-style" charger, it's not nearly as large or heavy as other brands, but it is proprietary, so if you lose it, you will need to purchase another Razer-specific charger to have your laptop run at optimal performance. You can charge this laptop using a USB-C cable if in a pinch, although it won't charge as quickly or at all if you don't have one of those heavy-duty USB cables/power adapters. I was able to use the husband's Macbook charger and it worked fine. Overall, I'm really happy with the build, appearance, and performance of the Razer Blade 15. If I had to choose one PC-based laptop for both work and gaming purposes, this computer would be my choice based on overall performance, specs, and portability. It's an attractive laptop that pairs form with function and is something that's worth considering if you want a powerful laptop to do more than just word processing. ... show more

  • Updated Review: Poor Quality Control for an otherwise great looking laptop that is overall mediocre
The media could not be loaded. Buyer beware for quality control issues (screen flickering and overheating on first blade I recieved). Second Blade was also flickering but I had to downgrade the intel UHD driver. The new intel drivers that just came out a few days ago however are working fine. If you are to buy this, get it from a reputable retailer and with an extended warranty! Build Quality - very good. new coating is more finger print resistant, not 100% but a huge improvement and easy to clean. Ports: 2 USB-C Thunderbolt with power delivery, 2 USB-A, full sized HDMI, SD Card Reader, headphone jack Screen: 360/FHD - looks great, really fast. Going back to 60hz displays suck. Really wanted the 240 QHD but not available anywhere. Webcam - worst 1080 webcam I've ever used. They skimped out on this which is disappointing for a laptop at this price Speakers: they are horrible. Think of two mono cell phone speakers on each side, They sound hollow and tinny. Need to remove that THX sticker because it's embarrassing. Keyboard: They are OK. Key travel is decent, but I like the Zephyrus G14 a lot better and this is obviously nowhere near the MacBook line's. Mouse: I like it a lot. Large, responsive, no issues. Hard going back to another laptop trackpad and is up there with the MacBook's. Heat: Second Blade did not burn like the first one I had to return. Temps are good on productivity software. It gets in the 90s, close to 100 when gaming and the fans come on loud. Don't ever use on your lap for gaming, place on a desk. Fans come on about 45-50db and to me it's not so bad while gaming. Runs quiet on productivity so no problems in an office environment. Battery life: For productivity you will get about 5-6 hours on 75% brightness. Gaming is less than a few hours and you obviously wont get the max performance without plugging it in. Not the greatest, wish they put in a 100whr battery instead of the 80whr. Gaming Performance: Basically can run every game I through at it over 60fps even on an external 3440x1440 external display. No problem at the native 1080 display on the laptop. Control, MW, Paladins, Overwatch, Shadow of Tombraider fly on this. ---- I really like the design and build quality of this. However right after taking it out of the box, plugging in and powering on, the laptop was incredibly hot while running updates and installing software. It was still running hot when I was browsing the internet and then the screen started flickering. Every time I moved the mouse it flickered and the cursor got blurry. I did a restart and it went back to normal but 5 minutes later it started doing it again! I shut it down and decided to return it the next morning. The next day out of curiosity I managed to run some benchmarks this morning and surprisingly, while the Razer Blade Advanced ran really hot there were no issues with the screen glitching and flickering... well that was until I opened up Notepad to pull my notes for these benchmarks! WTF. Anyway, here are the scores on what I was able to test. **Benchmarks** * FireStrike - 17916 * TimeSpy - 8129 * Cinebench Single Core: 1484 * Cinebench Multicore: 8094 * Tomb Raider: 14863 / 95 FPS Razer really needs to work on their quality control! ... show more
