The media could not be loaded. This unit worked well right out of the box. It does provide enough air for 2 air stones 1" wide and 17" long that run across a 150 gal fresh water planted aquarium. It is quite for as large as it is. I measured at the pump 12" away at 64 decibels with the cabinet open and 50 decibels with the cabinet closed. The ambient decibels in the area was 41 decibels. That puts the pump operating at 23 decibels in the cabnet, and 11 decibels with the cabinet door closed. I have the pump on a 1" foam pad to help isolat the vibration of operation from the wood of the aquarium cabinet floor. When placed directly on the floor of my aquarium cabinet, the wood of the cabinet floor starts to resonate and it fills the whole room with a quiet humm that is noticable even 30 feet away while watching TV. I have the 4 outlets feeding a 12 outlet manifold that allows me to adjust the flow rate of the air to the 2 air stones to compensate for the resistance difference of the air stones. The air stones that came with the pump seem to be of good quality and work well with our 10 gal brine shrimp hatchery on a separate pump. The provided silicone air tubing is garbage. It is thin walled, so kinks at the slitest bend and the pump does not have enough power to push air past the kinks. Hence the 3 stars.     • Electrical cord weary to use on my outdoor pond
Not happy with a 3 foot electrical cord that looks like the same cord on my lamp. I bought a Tetra pump 4 years ago and finally went out. It has an 8 foot thick electrical cord that looks like it's for outdoor use. This is so not. Maybe for some people but my Koi are priceless to me. I'll go with Tetra aerator before I would ever use this. Sending it back. ... show more

    • the hoses to the connections are very flimsy
four ports for areation is a wonderful help in making certain oxyogen is being distributed to the pond . During winter ice over the extra air will keep the gases moving out the ice melter hole less likely to have toxic effect on the koi. Seems powerful enough, but its only a few days old. The bad things: the check valves are a little too wide for the supplied air hoses. The hoses themselves are a very thin inferior plastic material. They are a bit too small to attach well to the stones. I have had 3 of the four pop oiff after thinking they were as tight to the stone access post as I could get them. Suggestion charge more and provide a better hose connection with a thicker hose and upgrade rhe airstones, The ones included don't look well constructed enough to last one season. This is anb add on from the original review. After having the hoses pop both from the motor and the stones several more times and loosing 2 stones to the bottoom of the pond after they fell off I decided to change out all the hoses, the 4 stoines. and the check valves. My "bargain " has now cost me more than the competition at reglar price. Buyeer Beware...avoid the hassle and thios brand. ... show more

Put this together and into pond & it failed almost immediately. The tubing keeps coming apart from the backflow preventer. Put it back together several times and it only help together for a couple of hours. Did it again using tape & it still came apart. Finally used Gorilla Duct Tape & hoping that will hold together. I really like how quiet this is to the other pump I was using. This one comes with lots of accessories which is nice but I didn't need that. Works well for my quarantine tank and provides better air flow than the AquaScape junk I had prior.
