  • Great product
Love this screen

  • Easy to use, good quality
I was looking to reduce the periphery of my old Raspberry Pi, getting rid of the standard monitor plugged into the HDMI port. This touchscreen works flawlessly, the setup is very straightforward, and it works just as desired. I do recommend getting a case though, for example the "SmartiPi Touch 2 - Case for The Official Raspberry Pi 7" ", since the RPI mounted to the back makes holding or placing it a little awkward. Almost a pitty, because the screen is so wonderfully slim. ... show more

  • Worked perfectly...
I had no issues setting this up. I had it out of the box, in a case, and plugged into my Pi in mere minutes. It fired up and worked on the first go - including the touch screen. Clarity / resolution is good, and responsiveness is what you expect. It was absolutely a great purchase.

  • Screen is OK but LOW resolution. Failed on a couple trivial details
For years we had hoped the DSI screen connector that is native to RPi's would be useful for something. This is pretty much it. Unfortunately it still requires use of two GPIO pins. Resolution is very low for a 7" screen. Indeed there are comparably priced generic touch screen easily purchased- (that don't use the DSI connector). Actually, for the same money, you can get an entire generic android tablet with a higher resolution display. Two small matters that would be so easy to fix that it defies logic that they have not been addressed: 1) The display came with absolutely NO INSTRUCTIONS on assembly. Sure, some may be geeky enough to know how to connect a ribbon cable even while blindfolded. But a simple one-page guide with diagrams would have been more appreciated than the included fine-print "Safety Guide". 2) The board and its connections are oriented in a way that has all the ports feeding from the bottom. This is a factor of this device, NOT any added case you purchase. So the first task users must do is browse around the internet to find the code you must add to a configuration file to flip the display. Well, either that or find some cables with right-angled plugs! ... show more

  • Just works
Works nicely. Built a retropie gaming station with this, using a RPI3b+

  • Great for Raspberry Pi projects.
Being a big nerd, I have two Pi 4 8GB models. I have this one with the touchscreen so I can use it as a thin client (nerdy stuff, but fun!).. Get a decent case for your Pi, plug this in and have a screen that works quite well and the touch on it is pretty good. Maybe another one can be made for a diagnostic panel for my main PC? Maybe a media server for my home network? Who knows, it'll be fun to build! ... show more

  • Even I can do it
Not a techy guy here. I was given a pi3 & the TV I had it plugged into didn't really mesh with the screen size the pi was projecting. Pretty sure there's an actual cure to that, but I got this, followed the directions & had it going in no time.

  • From the Start - Not So Good
Shipped in one day - great. But shipped someone else's return. I've build three Pi's using this screen so I'm familuar with it. The was shipped in a box from Element 14. It came with the internal packaging open and the board already attached to the screen. So I contacted Element 14 and asked them if they preassembled the screen and board before shipping - answer NO. What a surprise that the screen would not power up! When in Amazon going to halt the waste-of-time strategy of reselling returns without questioning whether the product has been damaged or not. The result - lots of time and money wasted trying to get another unassembled product, something that actually works. Of course that's Amazon's time and money and money wasted. Well, not really since they add $20 to the price of the product from what you could buy from Element 14 in the first place. These screens are an excellent purchase. Just be careful in handling them as the edge of the glass is fragile. They are easy to assemble and perform as claimed. So.... top grades to the screen and 1 star for being put through the return-the-return nonsense in hopes of getting what you payed for - a "NEW" product. If Amazon wants to resell returned items reduce the price! ... show more
