  • Rampage 5089927 Halogen Conversion Headlight Kit
I bought these to replace the sealed beam headlights on my 2006 GMC Savana Cutaway with a Trademaster tradesman-style box. If you're reading this, then you're aware of how uneven and erratic the beam is on a sealed headlight. I was leery about trying these because they were DOT approved. I was ready to purchase either IPF's or Hella's E-code, or European approved, headlights. I decided to try these because of Amazon's return policy. What I couldn't find was a decent description of how these performed. After I installed them, and re-aimed them, I was impressed for the most part. The beam pattern, as another reviewer noted, kept the spotiness to a minimum. The beam is rather consistent from left to right, and the cutoff is fairly defined for a prismatic lens. Along the top of the pattern (furthest from the truck) where it cuts off is a slightly brighter area in the middle-right. I have my left and right headlights pointed so the brighter areas sit side-by-side in the middle of the road. Beneath the cutoff (moving closer to the truck), the light remains consistent right up to where my hood gets in the way of my field of view. And, while I don't know how to describe the elevation that my low beam's cutoff, or how far out from the front of the truck I have them set at, where I set them on low beam worked perfectly when switching to high beam. In other words, the highs are perfectly shining down the road instead of too high or too low. The high beam does not have the cutoff. Instead, it throws more light down the road, left to right, while scattered light hits the trees above (good for when you're beginning up a hill) as well as in front of you, beneath the brighter area down the road. My only complaint is I would have expected a wider beam that would have covered the sides more. If I were to guess, the beam covers 30-35 degrees to the left and right of the centerline of the truck. I would like to have seen 50-60 degrees so I could see further when turning at stop signs or on side roads. In that respect, maybe that's what a DOT approved headlight is supposed to do? The other thing I liked was the style of rubber boot that goes over the lamp. It has a round grommet built into the middle that seals around the lamp base, rather than three slits that the lamp's electrical prongs poke through. I can't speak for how long the rubber grommet will last. I'll try to remember to edit my review in six years. I intend on keeping them since the cost was fair, and they came with lamps. They're so much better than what I had. EDIT 8/14/14: These lights are still doing a great job. The lenses haven't pitted, nor scratched from road debris. There is no discoloration nor distortion of the reflector from the light bulbs' heat. And, there has been no entry of moisture or water. I ordered a second set for my '87 Cherokee for off-road trips. I've been really happy with these; I changed my four stars to five. ... show more

  • Work great!
The lights work great! I bought a pair for both of my trucks! (1990 chevy and 1985 toyota pickup) lights are bright and easy to change when the bulb goes out!

  • Great results for my 2001 Jeep Cherokee
I installed these as replacements for Sylvania XtraVision sealed beam headlights on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. These are solidly made, have a nice tight fit in the stock retainer ring, and no modifications needed. 20-minute install. With the included H4 bulbs, these are only slightly brighter than the XtraVisions, but the light is a bit whiter and far more focused with a much sharper cutoff. Because these don't diffuse light like the sealed beams, I was able to fine-tune the aim to put light right where I want it. I can now see further down the road with low-beams (without blinding oncoming traffic), and the high-beam pattern covers a much wider angle, both up-down and left-to-right. A wiring-harness upgrade will be my next upgrade...I suspect the combination will be the ultimate lighting upgrade for street use. Fantastic value, great results with very little effort, I only wish I had done this conversion years ago. ... show more

  • Easy to install and bright
I love this set up! They were simple to install, maybe took me 45 minutes to uninstall old ones and put the new ones in. These are so much brighter too. I install all products on my jeep, even fabricate some, so I'm experienced with working on automotive products. Even a novice could install this kit. However, instructions on how the bulbs seat in the assembly would of been helpful. A small clip flips down and slides in a slot to hold them. Was simple to figure out after about 10 minutes of head scratching. All in all, these are one of the best investments on a Jeep, especially if you are an off-roader. ... show more

  • Worth the price!
I installed these on my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic and they look good. More importantly, they function much better than the halogens which were in there. Yes there are age differences but the change was more than that. I can see much further down the road on low beam (more even than the halogens on high beam) with a whiter light. The high beams are quite good and definitely extend the vision ahead and to the sides of the vehicle. Now I never feel as if I am over driving the headlights even at posted speeds on country roads. Never have been brighted since installation. I do live where the deer and the coyotes play in the roads as well as the domestic cats and dogs. In town and out these are great lighting. One noted item on high beam.... there is a not so bright spot if you are up close to something (about 5 feet off the garage door). But come on... if you have brights on and are that close you are already in trouble! In the distance where the high beams are normally needed, the lighting is absolutely fine! Speaking of installation... allow time to be careful, the holders in the back of the light on the vehicle needed to be opened up for the back of these is slightly larger but this is not a difficult thing to do at all. No cutting required. No additional wiring/adapters was needed. Has not given any additional heat up of wiring harness or draw on on amps that I have noticed. Have had installed just over a month. If you are wondering, I am a mechanically inclined female but anyone who has some patience, logic, has screwdrivers can do this. Would suggest measuring the height of your lights again something (I did a garage door) marking vertical & horizontal with blue tape before touching the old ones. Mark for center of high beam and low beam for both sides. Do not move vehicle. Next step was to only remove the ring for the light (light metal piece) and touch no other screws. Install lights, with the minor modification described earlier, and reinstall new lights (bulbs already in place). Restore the ring with the screws removed and test against your marks. Thinking seriously of the round version for my 67 Mustang as I like the look and the light so well. ... show more
