Description

Smart but self-destructive lawyer Cleaver Greene (Richard Roxburgh, Moulin Rouge!, Van Helsing) faces new challenges to his career and his personal life as the hit Australian comedy-drama returns. Last seen dangling from a runaway hot-air balloon, Cleaver crashes into the window of wanted criminal Edgar Thompson (John Waters, Offspring). Forced out of hiding, Edgar stirs up a huge corruption scandal involving most of the politicians in Sydney and vows revenge on Cleaver. As Cleaver runs for his life, his best friend’s wife, Scarlet (Danielle Cormack, Wentworth), tries to explain her new relationship to her kids, and former prostitute turned celebrity writer Melissa (Adrienne Pickering, The Reef) returns to Australia in disgrace, harboring a serious addiction. Later, the sudden death of a colleague shocks Cleaver and his friends. Guest stars in this “scathing legal drama” (The Guardian, UK) include Miriam Margolyes (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries), Rachael Blake (Serangoon Road), and Sara Wiseman (A Place to Call Home).

  • Keep smiling!
No worries mate, you cannot go wrong purchasing one of the most hilarious Australian TV series ever produced. Now rush online again and get Rake series 1 to 3. Keep smiling! On a visit down-under last year to Brisbane I was still finishing up the final few episodes of series 3 and kept bringing up my many likes for this show to a few Aussies who would listen to anything a Yank had to say and soon discovered from their replies and body language that they seem to be somewhat 'ashamed' that this Rake characterization is so popular outside of their country so that seriously qualifies this TV show into the guilty-pleasure category. If you don't like this TV show it's because you have no humanity man! ... show more

  • Excellent Program
The stories are really good & the acting is top notch. Some network in the US should import the entire series. An American version was produced & bombed. This show doesn't need an American re-do. The stories & acting stand on their own merits. If PBS imports Masterpiece productions, they can surely import RAKE. ... show more

  • Season Five---Please!
The fourth season of Rake continues this insanely funny series. The series chronicles the misadventures of Australian barrister Cleaver Greene. It's take on the incompetence and corruption the Australian legal and political system echoes the foibles of their American counterparts---and I think this is why this show resonates here in the states. In fact, there was a failed attempt to "Americanize" this series. The Australian series (seasons 1-3) were shown on the Audience Channel on Direct TV. I'm not aware if the fourth season was broadcast in this country. Cannot wait for season five---at least on DVD. ... show more

  • Dark humor? Rake has a flashlight
Enjoyed this loveable anti-hero. Rake's antics guarantee a laugh AND some dark realism. Character's lives are never the same after Rake. Where else could you find humor in a "Bobbittesque" case or defending a cannibal because eating someone is not against the law. Rake kept me watching through Season 4. I even re-watched so my hubby could catch up. Perhaps politics is his best fit for a Season 5? If you're expecting American style procedural drama, Rake will not fit the mold. If you enjoy dark humor... This show might be for you. ... show more

  • Creative in the extreme
Wasn't sure when I started watching.....but Rake is so good I binge watched. Funny, not at all PC and clever as all get out. First episode covered, amongst other topics, defending cannibalism in court. I'm surprised some American TV channel hasn't ripped Rake off.

  • Brilliant and original!
Absolutely amazing! That’s the cast and the writing - top notch. The series goes from strength to strength from season one all the way through season four. Can’t wait to see what they think of next in season five. Very clever, creative And funny. Also touching in places.
