I was looking for a straw hat to fit over my dreadlocks. They hit my waist to mid butt cheek. Freeform, different lengths. I do property inspections and need some coverage from the sun. I found this one and took a chance on a men's L/XL. I just got it so I don't know how it's going to hold up. It does feel a wee bit flimsy and crumbly. If I get through the summer without my husband taking it, I think it will be worth the $20 I paid for it. I saw some womens straw has that have a hole through the top that I can put my hair through when it's up in a bun. Nice hat, not the most strong thing in the world i.e. dont pack it into your luggage it is definitely a straw hat i.e. you have to wear it and keep it safe from sitting on or smashing when not on your head. It breaths nice and seems to be pretty good on sun protection so far.

The Quiksilver Men's Pierside Lifeguard Beach Sun Straw Hat was purchased during July of 2021 for the price of $20.00 for a gift to a friend who spends a lot of time outdoors for his work. As of 11-18-24, the price has increased to $22.00. This hat was purchased for protection from the sun for a person who is required to be outdoors for long periods of time during sunny summer days. Although it was very effective in providing cover from the sun, it didn't last the summer. I guess for the price point one could expect that it wouldn't last; but it disintegrated rather quickly. I wouldn't purchase a straw hat of this kind again. It seems as though straw does not hold up over the long term. If I'd been thinking clearly, I would have opted for a hat made of palm. I purchased a similarly styled hat made of palm 19 years ago for little more than the price I paid for this hat and it hasn't lost one weave stitch. It requires a good wiping every once in a while; but it is as sturdy and well made as anyone could desire. Unless one wants to make this purchase repeatedly, I would not make this purchase....and I will not make this purchase again! He did, however, deeply appreciate the gesture. ... show more

Box and hat were in perfect condition when it arrived. I searched and searched for a hat that would fit. I'm on the large side of 7.5 hat sizes (USA), so all the other wide-brim hats that I tried were too small. This XL is very comfortable. This straw hat is very comfortable to wear. I give credit to the elastic head band for its comfort. And, like all straw hats, it let's the breeze through very well, so it's very cool to wear in the sun. The crown keeps it shape even when placing/removing the hat, which I really like because that's how I put it on/off. I like the natural color. There are other brands with all kinds of designs and colors, but I wanted a natural-color straw hat without an inner liner. Plus, no liner helps to keep the hat lightweight. I can't say enough good things about the quality and performance of the hat. I will be buying more in the future. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I was lucky enough for this hat to come in a huge box to protect it from Damaging. Unlike some orders online that were shipped off in a wrapper. The dark color is brilliant & it’s not to big on the top since I have a smaller head.

This hat worked perfect to keep the sun out of my face while mowing the lawn. My hat came delivered by usps which I was worried about due to them not caring about packages from my experience. Sure enough it was left under my mailbox at the side of the road and not on my porch as Amazon does for deliveries. It was delivered in a pouch and not a box which added to my worries. After opening it and inspecting the hat it was In great shape. Not like I’ve saw in some other reviews. It does seem somewhat flimsy. Although I only plan to use it while mowing my lawn so I’m sure it will hold up for some time. The hat comes with a band where your head goes to ensure a snug fit and also a draw string to keep it on your head. Also it was only $15. Seemed like a win to me and still does. Limited options for my fat head, the xxl fits though. This is my second one. They tend to get torn up pretty easily around the brim unless you’re super careful which I’m trying to be on my second one. They let some sun in, not noticeable to the eye but I noticed that I get a little redness on the face without sunscreen. The ones I have bought for my wife and brother, with fabric around the rim and underneath, are way more durable and better at keeping the light out, but again, I have a fat head. ... show more
