As my loveseat futon mattress had a flattened out bottom, I pondered what to do. Should I buy a couch? Or possibly better yet, just buy a new futon mattress for my futon frame, which is still in excellent condition. As there was really nothing wrong with the very good quality frame I have, I looked into the latter option. I called a large futon store in NYC and asked for a recommendation for a medium firm mattress. They suggested the Otis Haley 110. I read a few reviews which were mostly positive, but was concerned about some of the comments that this mattress was not good for a couch. They assured me it was. So, I ordered the 54"x54" futon. Well, it took a little more than two weeks to get it, as it's a special order. It arrived compression packed in a cardboard box. I also ordered a Prestige khaki cover. I was also told I needed grip strips...so a bit reluctantly, I ordered that, too. Getting the box open took a bit, as you need to carefully undo the staples on the box. Once most of them are loosened, the futon sort of removed itself from its cocoon, and there it was. Like a newborn baby mattress. Getting the cover on wasn't difficult, once I oriented everything properly. As this futon is much lighter than a cotton filled one, it was easy to maneuver onto the frame. It was also easy to bend. So that was not a problem, like others have complained about. As I sat on it for the first time, it is apparent that this futon gives a lot of support for your back. Which I like. As the last 24 hours have progressed, I have noticed that the futon looks like it is still expanding a bit to reach its final shape. Overall, I like it. Otis claims it will last 10 to 12 years in its original shape - a claim I don't know is true, of course. But it does look like it's a very good quality product. So for the unknown longevity, I needed to take off one star. So, if you like a somewhat firm type of mattress, this could be the one for you. I am only using it for a couch, so I unable to comment on how it would be for sleeping, but I wouldn't hesitate to sleep on it if I could. By the way...I didn't even need to use the grip strips. I had a grip pad on the futon frame already, and it seems to hold the mattress in place. Not sure what to do with these grip strips now.... ... show more

Amazing product! I'm a truck driver and we are given foam mattresses in our trucks that are complete garbage. I've looked at this model for years and finally bought one. I'm kicking myself for waiting this long. Comfort and a solid bed. My back feels 100% better. I bought a queen size and use it like a couch. Cover it with sheets and it's an excellent bed.     • Firm and comfortable, but not a futon
I think this mattress is comfortable, I like the firmness but it is way too thick to fold like a real futon mattress should. I was very disappointed with that. However, if you would like to purchase this as a standard mattresss I think it is great if you like a firm bed.

    • good for use on couches that convert to beds
This is the third Haley twin mattress I’ve bought. The first two were for use on daybeds in a vacation home; they were the extra firm ones. They are very firm; good for use on couches that convert to beds. I added egg-crate pads to those to soften them for sleeping comfort. This one (110) I bought for a twin bed and it is very comfortable. Make sure you have adequate support for the mattress to sit on. The slats are fine for the extra firm mattress but I would recommend a smooth piece of plywood or a bunkie board for the 110 mattress. ... show more

We are using this for guest bed. And so far it has been used by guests 3-4 times. We using it for relaxing, lounging. This is a really comfortable mattress for sleeping especially for people who like soft to medium firmness. I won't recommended it for people who like firm or extra firm mattress. It's good for lounging. We haven't used it much for sitting but I assume it's as comfortable as it is for sleeping. ... show more

So far, I love this thing. Maybe it's just because my last bed was eleven years old with a big dip, but man, this thing is comfy if you are looking for something mid-firm.
