This works like a charger. Charges my Volt just fine. The only issue I have is that, if I unplug it from the car and leave it plugged into the wall then plug it back into the car it will not charge. So, each time I have to unplug it and replug it from the wall to get it to charge.

I recently purchased a used 2021 BMW CI3 and needed a way to charge it at home. I found this charger on amazon. There is a meter with a timer that comes with the charger which is a feature that is a must. Super easy to use, just hold the button down and it goes through the different times. You can also cycle through the different voltages the same way. The meter comes with mounts so you can mount it in the garage on the wall and the 25ft cord makes it so you have some flexibility where you choose to mount it. It was working just fine and now I'm getting 4 blinking red lights. It's saying there's a problem with grounding. I use the same plug with my Tesla charger and no problems at all. I wish I could return but past the 30-day window. Please avoid.

I have solar power. If I produce more than I can use, it goes back to the power company, but I only get partial credit, so it behooves me to use as much as I can of my own electricity, & as little as I can of grid power. What it boils down to is that on a sunny day I'll produce around 6 kW per hour; my house uses part of that. If plugged into a 240 outlet, the charger made by Ford will charge at a rate of 7 kW per hour, dipping into the grid. The other option, plugging into 110, results in a charge rate of only 1 kW per hour -- a "trickle charge," insufficient to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. This charger gives me options: I'm "currently" leaving it set at 16 Amps, which gives me a charge rate of 3kW per hour, sufficient to recharge after trips to town, but not so much that I outstrip the solar.     • It's a charger that works

I bought a 2020 Bolt EV that mysteriously lost the charger from the dealership. Needed something quick and this was basically next day. It does charge pretty slow on the 120 volt especially in the winter in Michigan. If you depress the button and pull it out too quickly it will throw an error and you'll have to reset the charger. But if you hold the button to release it for about half a second to 1 second and then pull it out the charger is okay. I have not tried 240 volt as I'm about to install a level two charger but this will be perfect for portable use and for going to friends and parents' homes to charge. Again you get about roughly 1.4kw on 120 volt so that's going to be 1.4kwh. It'll take a long long time to charge from dead but for city driving it can recover 50 miles over 12 - 14 hours depending on the ambient conditions. I think this is a pretty competitive price considering the cost of copper right now. 65 ft of 6 gauge is about $250. ... show more
