When material caught fire inside our laser engraver, the flames rose quickly. This blanket instantly put out the fire on the top side of the machine. Unfortunately I only had one on hand, and the fire had also spread to another compartment, so I had to use a fire extinguisher on that side (which made a mess and may have ruined more of the machine components). I will be buying more of these blankets now so if this ever happens again, I can smother the flames from both sides of the machine. The blanket was much faster and cleaner than the fire extinguisher. I'm also gonna buy one for every person I know because these things are amazing. Firefighters had already been called, and when they arrived they informed me that the foam packaging from my newly delivered printer is essentially as flamable as gasoline, and it was sitting only a few feet away. It was extremely important that we'd been able to control the fire quickly enough to avoid it spreading outside the machine. If it hadn't been for this blanket, I'm not sure if we'd still have a house right now. It's not just marketing. This works. ... show more

The blanket is made of fiber glass do not touch unless for emergency or the particles will go into your skin and hurt very badly. That was my mistake. The blanket works great for extinguishing fires otherwise.
