Worked until the battery ran out of volts, AC source didn’t recharge the battery and I thought the AC would be primary with the battery as a back up

This does a good job. It provides 12VDC, but it isn’t regulated while running on battery so you might need to handle that depending on your situation: as the battery power decays, the voltage drops. A boost converter can help with this situation, but there is an efficiency cost. So expect a stable 12v while on AC, but expect a swing of voltage from 13 v to 9 v while on battery. The clear plastic cover used to protect the internal circuit board is poorly designed and/or installed: the one on my device impeded some circuit board components and can damage the board. Use caution with the cover. My guess is that the board design evolved over time, but the cover design did not. Therefore the loss of two stars. ... show more
