My daughter is quite an accomplished potter in a relatively short time that she has worked with clay. She saw this and went nuts over it begging me to get it. She saved up and bought one of the most expensive wheels out there so she is serious about what she is doing with pottery. HOW THIS COMES This comes in parts. You have to assemble it to use it. It does come apart again if you need to store it away. PERFORMANCE I am not the potter like my daughter is, but she said that this is very useful for her when she is making pots. It helps her gauge the size of the pot as she makes it on her wheel. She said that it is convenient when you need to swing it out of the way too. She has not mounted it yet, but plans to put it on a more permanent base than she has at the moment. THE BOTTOM LINE My daughter who is a potter likes this very much. She said it is easy to use and finds it very helpful in sizing her pottery as she makes it. MY RATING FIVE STARS is what she told me to put for now. Great for newer potters like me. I’ve started about 4-5 years ago and now I have been getting my own supplies for the last two years. Since I’m starting to become more geared towards a productive stage and striving for more consistency in sizes, this gauge is a step in the right direction. I’ve been able to secure the gauge between my splash pan and the shelf on my wheel. This gauge is helping me to achieve the correct height and gives me a visual. Within 1 minute of trying to put this together I realized it had to be returned. The screws did not go all the way into the bottom an therefore ended up stripping the holes. This is not solid wood so fell apart easily. Not great for a wet project such as pottery. Also, the piece was cracked.

I've seen throwers on TikTok (and it seems like maybe the Great Pottery Throwdown) using something like this, so I was excited to get a chance to use it. It's pretty simply made and its purpose is simple: to help you throw sets of pots that are the same size and width. I'm still not making exactly the same size pots, but they're closer. The only negative I can think of is that it's super lightweight and easy to knock over. I put a brick on the base to keep it from falling over. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to use it. The screws the go in the bottom won’t go all the way in. I tried doing it by hand and with a screw driver. Because the screws won’t go all the way in, it won’t sit flat on the table and wobbles back and forth.
