I've got a high end charger as part of my home charging station but it's a good idea to keep a portable in your trunk just in case. This SUIDEK charger will do the job nicely. It's clearly not the cutting edge of EV charging technology but it covers all the bases and even has a storage bag. It has adjustable charging options (8A/10A/12A/16A) and the ability to schedule charging start times (0 to 12 hours). The display screen isn't going to wow anyone but it's functional. There's also a bigger 'status light' under the aforementioned display screen. It also has all of the built in protections that you find in any EV charger from a legitimate manufacturer. That includes overheating protection, over voltage protection, under voltage protection, short circuit protection, etc. It has a IP54 waterproof rating while in use and a IP66 rating when idle. Unless you're driving somewhere seriously remote, you can usually find sufficient charging options so that you might never need to use a portable charger. The Suidek 16 Amp Tesla Level 1/2 Charger is a decent charger because of the size, the material finishes on the cable are good but the charger itself feels like a cheaper plastic housing. The cable into the charging unit should be thicker to accommodate for the heat, it does get quite hot while charging at 16 amps! The cord length is ok, would like it to be longer! It has a nice small Tesla connection handle with a decent gripping surface. It weighs a light 4.16 pounds! A major issue with this device is that this inlet cord is not thick enough as a supply source to the charger, it should be a lot thicker to handle the energy. This cord is 0.422 inches in diameter while the outlet cable from the charger is 0.529 inches in diameter. I don’t understand the reasoning and thought process behind making the source cable thinner than the output cable. Its not like the energy gets stepped up! It is nice that this device includes a digital readout that tells you information from this unit such as time on charge, voltage, and temperature. Sure, the Tesla tells you some of this information, but the temperature is an essential piece of data which it can’t tell you and because there is the ability to put adapters to use with CCS1 and J1772 connections you could use this with something other than a Tesla. This device is plug and play. Though you can go through the menu and set the charge rate that you want it to be at, I was using this to charge up my 2021 Tesla Model Y and it was sustaining 16 amps. I have this connected through an extension cable that is coming off of a 50-amp breaker and I had attached it to a 6-50 wall adapter to allow for the full 16 amps. The handle gets warm after hours of charging. The listing states that the temperature operating range is up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and the back actually shows 185 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a really high operating temperature which is much needed improvement because I have seen competing products hit temperatures as high as 141 degrees Fahrenheit in my Texas garage over the summer. The device definitely needs that bandwidth in order to not fall to far outside of the operating temperature because I had an EVDance 32-amp charger that gave out after a while from hitting 141 degree highs and then started throttling the charger down to 118 degrees at the max, which dropped my power transfer rate to as low as 29 amps. I’ll see if this charger lasts because the materials seem to be inferior to the EVDance when it comes to the housing. The carrying case is made out of a durable nylon that looks and feels good, and easily accommodates for the size of the charger and cable. It has a nice rubberized bottom to keep from slipping. The handle is lacking though. It is just a standard piece of nylon with no space in between the bag and the handle. ... show more

I picked this up to plug into a 240V NEMA 6-20R plug I installed for charging my car and other 240 volt tasks, and this has done great. It has a peak of 16 amps, which is exactly correct for the maximum sustained load on a 20 amp circuit. I've limited it to 12, and everything's been great. I've tested at 16 as well, and it worked perfectly but my preference is 12 to allow some overhead for other use of the circuit. ... show more
