The media could not be loaded. I made a little bird bath fountain in the back yard, using a large cheap plastic planter and river rock. Other than this pump, noting else was needed. (I did have to plug the planter drain using silicone sealant / adhesive.) The little 6w version I have worked immediately when the solar panel was connected. (Note: Pump must be underwater before connecting to panel. You risk damaging the pump otherwise.) One Important thing to keep in mind. This solar panel will not work in the shade. Any shade. Just a little shade. When it's in full sun, it's pretty impressive for such a tiny pump. But if you don't have spot with full sun, at least some time of the day, it won't work for you. You do have about 8-10 feet of cord and the panel is easy to move around if you're willing to chase the sun. I took one star off because while the clear plastic tubing fit well on the pump, none of the spray heads or adapters provided would fit. Normally I would have taken more stars off for a serious issue like this, but in fairness this pump may still work fine for you. Here's the deal...if the pump itself is just below the waterline...no more than two inches or so, there is a hard plastic extension provided. And happily the spray heads will fit on it OK. If you need to lift the water more than that, 4' of clear flexible tubing is provided. In my case I needed about two feet of plastic tubing. This is when you run into trouble. The spray heads won't fit and can't be used. In many applications, however, just having the water come out of the end of the tubing is fine. For instance, maybe you have a little waterfall, and just need to feed the water into that. Or, as in my case, I just propped the tubing straight up and it makes a nice little arch of water...like coming out of a hose. The birds don't care! ... show more

I really enjoyed this fountain with pump for the first 5 months but then it quit working. It was a hit with birds and my honey bees. I cleaned it with warm, soapy water and it worked the rest of that day but the next morning when the sun was directly on the solar panel, it wouldn't work at all. The red and blue LED lights just keep flashing. I will try getting in touch with the manufacturer as I see in other reviews they have been good on their warranty. ... show more

This little pump just keeps on working. I have it in a cement pedestal birdbath and all day long I get a water fountain of varying degrees depending on how much direct sunlight the solar panel is in. I could move it around but instead I just leave it alone and sometimes the pump is squirting water 10 inches into the air and other times much less, sometimes it seems to pulsate. The birds are use to it now and I see them on the edge of the birdbath even when the fountain is pumping the water 10 inches high. It's always moving some water, even when the panel is not in the best position. For the price, prompt delivery and quality, just buy it. ... show more

This pump is very thoughtfully designed. It comes with a foam disk which allows the pump to float at the water's surface, making it a hybrid between those floating pumps with a built-in solar panel and the units with a separate solar panel and a pump that sits on the bottom. This also keeps the pump from getting clogged so easily. In my experience, this does not need direct sun to work. That was my concern because I have a very shady yard in the Pacific Northwest and no spot gets more than a few hours of direct sunlight a day. I'm not getting a Las Vegas-style water show, but even on a very cloudy day with no direct sunlight, I get a little *bloop* of water maybe 2 inches tall every second or so. It looks nice and keeps the water moving to deter mosquitoes. I am floating the pump in a bird bath, so it doesn't need a lot of energy. If you want to push water through four feet of tubing, then yeah, you are going to need more sunlight. I am very happy with this and intend to add a few more bird baths to my yard next summer. Update: Right now I have what I would call high cloud cover. Bright light, no sun, and I am getting continuous flow about 3 inches high. It's amazing. ... show more

The product itself is nice, great for its price. Unfortunately the solar power DOES NOT hold any charge (I knew it by reading previous comments). And I am not sure if this will work for me 100%, as the pond I want to install it does not get full sunlight, and the cord is not long enough to place it somewhere. The cord (from the solar power to the pump) is around 8 feet (idk, I am guessing), but not enough for me. I wish I had the option for it to be around 15 feet (CUSTOMER SUPPORT - CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS????) - I appreciate your answer. After this would definitely get 5 stars. Just putting an honest review here! ... show more
