  • Be informed, reap the rewards of this product
I can only imagine the benefit those of you with mild to moderate hearing loss may receive from this device. The Pocket Talker is not designed for those of us with severe or profound hearing impairment, my status. More about me at the bottom, but I want to make a couple recommendations to those of you considering Pocket Talker. Spend a few minutes educating yourself about the Pocket Talker, what it can and cannot do for you, your hearing issues. Be sure to understand ‘background noise’. An informed decision will better serve you and minimize or prevent misunderstandings after the purchase. In simple terms, the Pocket Talker provides the ability to amply sound, and to make some tone adjustments. In event first-use does not meet your expectations, be patient, it most likely will take a little time for you to acclimate. Now about my hearing; I am profoundly hearing impaired, ‘legally deaf’ by definition. Hearing aids do not help me, cochlear implant is my only option, but I am at risk of the surgery due to other medical issues. Currently nothing out there will remedy my impairment. I purchased a Pocket Talker in hopes I could gain even a minuscule improvement in a specific situation, and I did. Once a week, I attend a group meeting environment where twelve people in one room are speaking individually, this is my weekly bible study. Reading lips along with the ability of naturally hearing (unassisted) a very low volume helps me understand some of what is being said. What I naturally hear is similar to distant conversation, not discernable. By having the ability to raise the level of sound ever so slightly is a bit of improvement. The Pocket Talker Ultra 2 does not restore my hearing to an understandable level, but it helps a bit in this setting, and I am most thankful to have it. ... show more

  • Excellent for moderate to severe hearing loss.
This goes perfectly with the Olympus Microphone ME-52W Noise Cancellation Mic and the Panasonic RP HJE 125E ear buds. I hang the Pocketalker on the lanyard that comes with the package. I use the Olympus mic with the extension. I attach the earbuds and the microphone to the Pocketalker, hang it around my neck, then slide the whole thing down my polo shirt front. I clip the microphone near the shirt button. Because the earbud wires are long, I wrap it around my neck, and insert into the corresponding ear from behind my neck. When my shirt is buttoned up, the wires are almost invisible. With my shirt tucked in, I can adjust the volume wheel through the fabric. The wheel moves "forward" to increase the volume, "backward" to decrease it. I find that the earbuds work best if they're not tightly plugged in. I need some airflow in the ear canal so the sound seems more natural. I've been using in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids for many, many years. Adaptive listening devices such as this have not worked so well in the past. The external microphone feature, the Olympus mic technology, and the Panasonic earbuds design all contribute to make this a truly useful device for the hearing impaired. ... show more

  • This is a deal breaker for hearing impaired.
My mother is 93 and in good health but has a hard time hearing. Hearing aids were always getting lost or not charged which she needed help with. I heard that the pocket talker helped a good friends mom so I thought I would try it out. My sarcastic, stubborn, yet adorable mother liked it immediately. I gave it to her for Christmas 2020 and she uses it daily. She no longer has her TV volume set at 95 where she lives in a Retirement Community. I told her that now her neighbors wont be bothered by her TV and she said - They can't hear anything anyways! My sisters who live with her are thrilled that she does not constantly ask them to repeat what they say. Its a microphone headset so when she talks she can hear her voice and others voices super clear now. She has thanked me over and over. Love it! Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Buyer Beware!! Purchased from EZ Living Aids. USED item being passed off as New.
Purchased from EZ Living Aids. The website says NEW but the product I received was USED. (1) The seal of the box of the Pocketalker 2.0 was already broken. The edges of the sealing tape was ragged and dirty. (2) The Pocketalker itself was dirty. It had a lot of sticky black stuff on the battery cover. (3) The included batteries were packed inside an anti-static bag (same material used to pack hard drives and video cards). The Anti static bag was open and resealed with 3M Scotch Magic Tape. The photos even show the zigzag cut of the tape dispenser. (4) The original Williams Sound UPC Sticker that contains the serial number and date of manufacture was completely covered with another sticker. See attached photos. Addendum: Comparing with a REAL Brand New item: (Purchased from a different seller) - (5) The Brand New Pocketalker 2.0 had "Willams Sound" branded batteries in shrink wrap plastic. Whereas the USED item from EZ Living Aids had Duracell batteries. (6) The Brand New Pocketalker 2.0 neck lanyard was in the box but not attached to the unit. Whereas the USED item from EZ Living Aids already had the Lanyard attached to the unit (can be seen in the photos). ... show more

  • A Great Discovery
My 92-year-old uncle was in the hospital and his hearing aids were basically useless. (Without hearing aids, you have to speak very very loud for him to hear you.) One of the nurses told me about this device and said they had one on the floor, if he wanted to try it. They had an older model, but it worked great and was pretty much life-changing for him. Everyone could talk into the microphone and a normal voice and he didn't miss a word. This is the newest model which I purchased a few weeks ago for him and it's working great. I did buy him a different set of headphones since the one it comes with was sliding around his head. But now he prefers the earbuds which also come with the Pocketalker. His hearing loss is substantial, but he hears very nicely with the volume just set to 1, and using the air buds. This was a great find. I even called Williams Sound to tell them how great their product is. ... show more
