  • Good enough
I have three "sizes" of 18650. They might come double sheathed or with extra metal on the positive or whatever... this fits the three variations I have. Too snugly, which is good for me. Tough to remove without a tool. Okay since my purpose is semi-permanent. Also, the wire does not like being soldered. A fresh cut/strip, no tin, flood with rosin core or dip in classic flux. Trying to de- and re-solder led to a cold joint. If mounting, do not rely on the single screw point. Use double sided foam tape instead or in addition. ... show more

  • fit my 16650 well
I know these are for 18650s, but I needed a tray to make reviving a few dead 16650s easier on my bench power supply. I stuck the 16650 in there, hoping it would be tight enough. There's a LOT of travel on the spring, so it could accomodate shorter batteries if you really wanted to. The walls provide a lot of hug. I had to have a tool to pry the battery out, which might or might not be a good thing for your application. I'm going to end up trimming the edges down on mine, as it doesn't need to hug the battery to prevent it from falling out. ... show more

  • Watch your current -- very thin leads
I used one in a bit of a high current application, 2p with batteries rated for 30A powering a string of LEDs that pulled 40W total at 5V through the BMS (8A). To the battery with say 90% efficiency, that's a load of ~5A per battery or 18W. One of the wires got hot, melted through its insulation, and then shorted the whole thing until dry, killing both batteries. I noted there were only 4 strands of copper in the wire, so they're ~24 AWG at most. Pretty tiny. Luckily it burned itself out without causing a fire or explosion (both batteries are toast), but I might recommend only low-current applications for these. I dunno, I won't fully blame this pack or the tiny leads, I could have had a short on my end that just caused it to pull the full 30A through them. I'll take my half of the responsibility, but I still think the gauge on these is worth watching, and I would not assume your load will just be fine through 24 gauge wires. Do your math and choose the right holder and wire for the job. Otherwise, for powering a low-current load like a microcontroller or something, these will work just fine. You might have to stretch the springs a bit to make a good connection, but it's not a big deal. They're pretty cheap and simple. ... show more

  • Not for protected cells, fine for shorter, flat faced, unprotected cells
My protected cells are 2.73" (69.3 mm) long and won't fit. My flat faced, unprotected cells are 2.56" (65.0 mm) long and fit just fine. The flat faced cell is well kept in the clamping wings and wouldn't pop out if dropped, yet I can remove the cell without requiring a tool. The wires appear to be 26 AWG, so it should be good to 4A. ... show more

  • The curved sides that reach up on the upper half of the battery make this battery box very snug.
Designed for charging in-place in a circuit -not repeated removal and charging . The wire leads are probably too small guage. Button top and flat top 18650 batteries will fit ,but the curved sides that wrap over the top side of battery while secure can easily tear the insulating jacket. Best to trim them down a bit ... show more

  • My 3.7V batteries don't even reach the ends of these battery compartments.
No problem with getting them in a timely manner, they just are about 1/2" too long for the 3.7Volt batteries to reach the contact points and are farther apart than the battery is long by around 30%. If there are more than one physical size of 3.7 volt batteries common then I've evidently been living under a rock somewhere. My 3.7 volt batteries are exactly the same dimensions as AA batteries. They are EBL batteries from Amazon. ... show more
