  • Great olive oil for your health
I purchase this olive oil specifically for the high polyphenol, and high hydroxytyrosol content that it contains. I use this as a health additive. I like the taste of this olive oil. It is thick and creamy. It has a nice strong bite after swallowing, which indicates the high polyphenol content. It is cold pressed at early harvest. I will continue to purchase this olive oil as long as it continues to contain these high concentrations of healthy compounds which are very beneficial for ones health. ... show more

  • Extremely bitter, good for the health
Super bitter extra virgin olive oil. Too bitter for me, but my mom (a health nut) loves it. She does a shot of it every day, and say her health has never been better. This is definitely not for cooking or even using as-is with spices for dipping bread. Just a health-benefit type of olive oil.

  • Easy to take as a shot
I had never heard of a product like PJ KABOS 'Phenolic Shot' (1100 mg/kg) USDA Organic Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Highly Bitter & Pungent Taste, Greece, Cold Extracted, 16.9oz Bottle, PJ KABOS “Family Reserve Organic - Phenolic Shot” before. Clearly I have used extra virgin olive oil, but I was not sure what 'phenolic shot' was. It is a very bitter olive oil. I would not be able to use it in cooking but I don't think that is the intended purpose of it. It is for taking as a daily shot which is easy to do. ... show more

  • Extremely bitter
I was so excited to try this olive oil, I regularly prefer a robust olive oil and so I thought I would really enjoy this. Unfortunately, for me this was so extremely better that I could not eat it even though I tried it was several different ways I ncluding with herbs and garlic on the focaccia bread. My husband who is less sensitive to bitter foods really enjoyed it so at least it will definitely get eaten at my home. I’m giving this olive oil still a high rating because it obviously is high quality, it just did not work with my particular taste palette. ... show more

  • STRONG Olive Oil
This olive oil is way different than regular Filippo Berio or something you'd get in the store like that. This stuff has a sharp, bitter, pungent, peppery punch in the face. I don't know if I'd fill a spoonful and just take a "phenolic shot" as they call it. I tasted a little bit like that and it was kind of offensive in the back of my throat. Compared to their other olive oils, this PJ Kabos has the most extreme phenolic levels. To be honest with you, I don't really think it's good for most cooking applications. I don't think it's supposed to be though, as they tell you straight up it's SECONDARY use is for finishing/vinaigrettes, and don't even list cooking as a use. This stuff is certainly a dark color. High quality cold press olive oil for aficionados and foodies. I have been using this sparingly. I put a little into a vinaigrette. I put some on Bruschetta. I put some on freshly baked bread with some herbs, parmesan, seasoning. All good. I have also been "cheating" by cutting this olive oil with a little bit of the regular stuff. I think it's a good idea to customize how hardcore of an olive oil flavor you want by cutting this pure stuff with the regulars Filippo. I don't care if that's "against the rules" ! ... show more

  • Bitter, high quality oil
I’ve never used an olive oil like this before, so I did some reading about polyphenols and different classes of olive oil, and it’s been interesting to learn about the health differences between different types. As advertised, it has a bitterness that I’ve only tasted in one other olive oil before (from Trader Joe’s). I had thought it was a bad thing, but know now that it’s an indicator of freshness and high polyphenol content. The bottle has a lovely shape and feel, the cork works well, the oil pours out at a good rate and doesn’t spill down the bottle and make a mess. I haven’t used it in shot format - I’m a bit skeptical of that trend - but I’ve been using it in the place of my regular olive oil, and for dipping bread, and it’s working great. The bitterness isn’t noticeable when it’s mixed into other things or cut with something acidic. ... show more
