  • Works good
Works good. The directions are okay, could be a little easier to read in the wiring section but readable

  • It's.. Okay
To my surprise I seem to have purchased this almost six years ago, and I'm sure it's out of production now but on the off chance someone is buying one used or new old stock or such, a few thoughts. The display isn't crazy bright in the sun, it will depend on your cars windshield setup if it's an issue, and the color you're using. The options/setup are a mess. Maybe I'm getting old, or I miss 90's radios that had less features, but the abbreviations for many settings are almost impossible to remember and are tedious to cycle through, and the available options change depending on the mode the unit is in. Keep the owners manual in your glovebox. The actual audio output specs via the internal amp are pretty pedestrian. Ok for regular coax speakers, but meh otherwise. I assume preamp out specs are better but haven't looked as I never bothered with an amp. The android app is a nice idea but garbage. There are no simple bass/treble adjustments. There's several eq presets, and you can setup a couple of custom ones which is cool, and there's a bass boost and a loudness and I don't even remember what else, but I've never seen a headunit that didn't give you just plain bass and treble if you didn't want to monkey with multi-band EQ's. Weird. On positive notes, it has a decent sized volume/control knob. The color of everything lit up on the face is variable in color and base brightness in addition to dimming via a headlamp on input. It works well enough once setup all in all, bluetooth streaming off android, CD, USB, the latter has FLAC support which is essentially lost on this unit sound quality wise but hey, nice touch. Simple physical install, same as any other headunit made in the last 20 years or better. It looks halfway grownup, no flashing lights or crazy multi colors, etc. I've no idea what I paid for it, but if it was over $125 it was too much. The sad part is to get display dimming, color changing, and a simple-ish display, it's still hard to come up with something for reasonable money. The car audio industry seems to be rather out of touch with rare exception. ... show more

  • Awesome
I’m not up on all the technology upgrades but love the radio. Excellent sounds and looks nicer than my car.

  • Great Head Unit for the price!
I bought this to put in my 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Installation was pretty straight forward and I would say standard for aftermarket radio installs. I didn't use the manual much other than for wiring color designation. I've had it in for about 3 weeks now and it's been great! I love the bluetooth feature; the main reason I bought the radio. It automatically connects to my cell phone every time I get in my Jeep, turn it on and it starts off playing music right where I left off last time I was in the Jeep. I installed the microphone on the steering column and hid the wire behind the instrument trim panel. I love the BT phone feature because I get a lot of calls for work when I'm driving down the road. All I have to do is push the phone button on the radio and it pauses my music and connects my phone call through the speakers in the car. I asked people how I sounded and they said they could tell I was on speakerphone, but could hear me ok. I like the fact that it has a USB port on the front to charge my phone or possibly play music off of a USB drive. I haven't tried the cd player yet, since cds are kind of out of date and everything has gone digital, but I would say it works fine. The only complaint I have, as others said, is that when sunlight is on the display it's very hard to read the display; I wish they would or could have put some type of coating on the lens to reduce the glare. i didn't try to turn the brightness all the way up on the display because I didn't want it being super bright at night time. I am thinking of ordering another one of these to replace the radio that is working fine in my 2001 Camaro just because the current radio doesn't have bluetooth or a USB port. If this is the price range you are looking to spend on a nice head unit, don't hesitate to get it; it's a great bang for the buck purchase! ... show more

  • Upgrade, but still meh.
Although I'm not 100% blown away by this head unit, it does it job. The display is rediculously dim, no matter what color you choose. I haven't actually tried the cd player, but who uses cds anymore. Bluetooth connecting can be cumbersome, inconsistent and the range is short. If I step out of the car and stand next to the door, it starts dropping in and out. I find the remote unnecessarily large, and the button labels confusing, why is there no play/pause/connect button? Lastly, and it's probably more the app than the unit, Pandora playback is suspect. Sound quality is everywhere, one song is super low, next is loud, eq settings vary per song, suuppeerr annoying. Doesn't seem as bad with Google play, but that's not built into this unit. Overall I'm satisfied, especially over my old Sony that wasn't bluetooth, all the buttons stopped working and still has my Busta Rhymes cd stuck in it (I want that cd back by the way). Update: unit died unceremoniously, now only plays music through the subs for maybe 30secs, then throws a amp error and becomes completely unusable until you restart the car. After some research I tore apart my car looking for a short in my wiring somewhere and came up empty. When it first died I got it working for a couple of minutes, then it was dead again next time I got in the car. They don't even make this unit so this probably doesn't matter anymore other than the fact I would think twice about pioneer head units. I've had 3 different pioneer units, both single/double din, all bluetooth and some with CD playback. They ALL died after a couple months/years. I spent about +300$ for for two of them, and they're worthless now, smh. I'll probably switch to kenwood or alpine from now on. ... show more
