  • Great idea but lacking for mountain use...
Color: Scout (Orange)
Decided to try for a trip to Southern California mountain hiking with our soon to be 5 year old. First use was at the giant sand dunes in Mojave National Preserve. Little guy got on and the angle of the climb and the sand made it uncomfortable for both of us. Figured this problem was in the angle of climb and the sand... Decided to try again in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument in California. Once were were three hours into the hike, the little on was getting tired. Fired the harness up and started again. It was going well for the first 30 minutes and he started saying his feet were uncomfortable. His feet were pitched outward and cramped on the bar while rubbing on the strap. We tried having him up higher and lower to see if his feet could find a good place. Due to my body movements and size, there was not a spot where his feet could comfortably be placed. After this I used food to keep him moving. I also carried him on my shoulders for a few miles downhill, which was easier. The little guy is 48 lbs and was excited to use it but his shoes interfered with straps and my movement. At 6'1" and 230 lbs, my legs and back were too wide for the bar and his feet. Also, the back pad accessory sat to high up to stop the bar from hitting me. This product will be good for those shorter kids where the bar can be higher. It also would be great for level ground hiking, not uphill mountain stuff. ... show more

  • Works great, but mind the weight limit. Ouch!
Color: Scout (Orange)
It works perfectly if your kid is under the 50 pound weight threshold. I think that number is there more because the straps get very uncomfortable at higher weights and less because the apparatus won't hold them. I used this with my 8 year old, probably a little too tall and heavy for it, but it worked. The only downside was that if I wasn't careful it could get painful for me pretty quickly. It's not hard to set up, and kids love being on it. ... show more

  • Didn’t work for us
Color: Scout (Orange)
Tried it out with our 3 1/2 year old. She didn’t like it, maybe it’s just her, but said it made her legs hurt. Probably works great with other kids. Also, the price is a little steep for what it is.

  • Great for anyone traveling with a small child
Color: Scout (Orange)
We bought this product because we where going on vacation and a stroller would either be cumbersome or impractical for our 2 year old. The backpack's ride height is adjustable, so it takes a little experimentation to find the height your child will find comfortable, and it takes a little practice getting the child comfortable riding, getting on and getting off. However, once the set up period is over the product makes touring cities and the country side much easier. The product comes with a harness for your child that clips onto the backpack so they will not fall by accident. Perhaps when they get older they can clip it in themselves, but we found that an extra adult to hook a younger child that can not or will not follow directions works best. The harness also makes them easy to grab if you put them down to run about. This is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who is going on vacation with a young child. It is easy to pack and makes getting around a lot easier. Especially if you are going to a crowded area, or to a place that requires a lot of walking. ... show more

  • Great product for hiking
Color: Scout (Orange)
The Piggyback carrier was a great step from our hiking pack. It is lightweight and easy to use. I do suggest the hip belt. It makes the carrier more comfortable. We also purchased the backpack harness. Our little guy likes having his own backpack. If you enjoy being outdoors with your child but hate carrying them on your shoulders, I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Don’t waste your money
Color: Scout (Orange)
At first glance, this seems like a great idea! After attempting to hike with either of our children, it proved easier to just carry them. The weight distribution often caused loss of blood flow to arms, tingling, or lower back pain. Just not worth it, maybe others had better experiences. My wife and I could not make it work, comfortable enough to justify using it. Bummer ... show more

  • Good for Older Toddlers
Color: Scout (Orange)
I read the reviews beforehand, so was aware that this may be a bit advanced for my 2-year-old grandson, but got it anyway. I’m not sorry I bought it since he will grow, but I would recommend this for toddlers of about 3. My son said my grandson also found the whole thing a bit scary, and they are right that there is no way for the child to relax. We do think it will be great for going to places where he will be on and off; like the zoo, and when in crowds. Highly recommend it and I’m sure we’ll use it a lot. ... show more

  • Great product. I bought it to use it with ...
Color: Scout (Orange)
Great product. I bought it to use it with my 5 y/o, 40-lb daughter on some strenuous hikes. The Piggyback rider allowed me to better distribute her weight across my back and shoulders.. She got a little tired of standing up after about 1 hour so I alternated her position between the Piggyback Rider, walking and my back, to give her a little rest, then she could come back up. It is hard to make a product like this perfect, but I feel they got it as close as they could. No other carrier would have allowed me to help my daughter on uphill trails like this product. I could not find any other standing carriers, but the sitting carriers would have been tougher on me and my neck and they don't support this much weight. People on the hikes were asking if it was my own invention, because they thought it was great. The hydration pack is a very nice addition. ... show more
